3.0 out of 5 stars Back yard make-believe in book form, July 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Dance Fairies #7: Isabelle the Ice Dance Fairy: A Rainbow Magic Book (Mass Market Paperback)
This popular group of books about fairies of every imaginable color, avocation, group and series of events is just right for girls beginning to read chapter books. The books all have the same format, plot, and conclusion, but it doesn't matter because the readers embue each character with backyard magic that only this age can provide. The stories go like this.

Two girls meet a fairy that has a problem. Usually something has been stolen that causes her to lose her power and she must have help getting it back. The girls are magically changed to the size of fairies (usually) and transported to fairyland where the problem occurs. Together the fairies and the girls figure out a way to restore the lost item and all is well until the next book. Girls from five to eight love these books. I call them book candy because girls gobble them up. They are just long enough and written well enough to hold girls' interest. This is transformative literature of an entirely different stripe: it provides the pleasure that girls get from playing fairies in the back yard...only in book form.

2.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loved this book, but..., October 26, 2011
By
This review is from: Dance Fairies #7: Isabelle the Ice Dance Fairy: A Rainbow Magic Book (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this was one of the worst books I have read with my daughter in a long time. She chose this book to read for a book report. As she was reading it to me, I found the story confusing and boring. I knew that I was going to have to help her with the report, so I ended up reading the book again myself. I just found the storyline to be weak and the characters were not well developed. I guess the main thing is that my daughter loved this book, and any book that makes her want to read is a good thing, which is why I gave it 2 stars. I am sad to say that we have 2 other books in the Rainbow Magic series. Hopefully they will be better than this one.

This review is from: Dance Fairies #7: Isabelle the Ice Dance Fairy: A Rainbow Magic Book (Mass Market Paperback)
My grand daughter is a huge fan of the Rainbow Magic series (any book). She seems to have enjoyed this book. I can speak for the delivery, it exceeded both promises and expections.
