Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Dance Like Flames is Tanglefoot s first album since the departure of founder and principal songwriter, Joe Grant, and features songwriting contributions from all members of the band including newcomer Sandra Swannell. Tanglefoot undertook a different approach in recording this album. For the most part, band members worked alone in home studios and passed tracks back & forth. The track For The Day was the exception: it was initially recorded live-off-the-floor at Park Head Studios Yorkshire by Brian Bedford (ex-of the British a cappella group Artisan). Songs were assembled & mixed by producer and 18-year Tanglefoot veteran, Steve Ritchie. Tanglefoot is Steve Ritchie (guitar), Al Parrish (bass), Terry Young (mandolin / banjo / guitar), Bryan Wiermier (piano) and Sandra Swannell (violin / viola).

3.0 out of 5 stars sentimental, January 16, 2007

Canadian folk band Tanglefoot has been performing for over twenty years. The much-loved group recently released their first studio album since 2002 with the October 2006 "Dance Like Flames.

Patrons of Tanglefoot's numerous tours will understand the group's reputation as powerful live group. The new album is perhaps milder than a live show as it combines folksy ballads, fast-paced drinking songs, and sentimental tunes of native pride. Tanglefoot is renowned for their vocal harmonies and the gospel tinged "Hard Work," and suggestive "Boot Soup," are fine examples of this, and "Empire and The Right," is completely a cappella.

Tanglefoot has long been established as a public radio staple and have made numerous appearances on both American and Canadian public stations. Listeners familiar with groups like the Woods Tea Company, Great Big Sea, or the Old Blind Dogs will greatly enjoy this album, and old friends of the band will appreciate the new additions of violin and violist. In short, if you're a fan of Garrison Keillor, you'll have a good time with this - otherwise you might look for something with a bit more kick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love those Canucks, December 28, 2008
By C. Turner (Cobleskill, NY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Tanglefoot, a five person Canadian folk band, is one of our favorite groups. We've traveled all over NY State to see the Ontario based group. Dance Like Flames is a great album! My favorite, "Lunenburg Skies", is a gentle love song...my husband's favorite, "Empire and the Right (George)" is an historical tune with echoes of a present day ruler, coincidentally named George as well. Insightful, thoughtful folk music with superb musicality. A five star group and a five star album.
