A cousin to that old-favorite Twister, Dance Maker encourages kids to follow a sequence of steps shown on an electronic display, which they mimic on a plastic floor mat. Turn on some music (not included), choose one of three speeds, watch the lights on the electronic dance maker, and then follow the matching steps on the touch-sensitive mat. After three minutes the Dance Maker tabulates a score, flashing "you're a pro" or "keep trying." Two 1.5-volt C batteries are required (not included) for the Dance Maker. The flashing lights and crinkly dance mat may grab children's attention initially, but after a few rounds they may move aside (the Dance Maker shuts off automatically) and stick to designing their own dance moves. --Amy Nevala

I bought this toy for my granddaughter ... it slips and slides all over the place ... the console portion of it kept falling down. You play your own music and the beat of the music doesn't match the beat of the Dance Maker. She is 8 years old, loves to dance but was so frustrated that in less than an hour we decided it was a total bust and returned the toy ...

My daughter received this toy for a birthday present. I kept reading the instructions trying to figure out how to get the music to come on - I just refused to believe there was no music! You're supposed to try to follow along to the blinking lights, but the mat keeps moving and you can't keep up with the lights. You're supposed to turn on your own music, but the lights won't match the beat. Even my five year old thought this toy should be returned. How many kids are willing to give up a birthday present?!

the concept is fun and you really can get a good physical work out, but there is no way to stop the sequence of lights on the dance pad until the cycle is complete. That's frustrating the cycle last 3 minutes if not longer. There is no on/off or pause switch. There is no information on what the dance sequences are suppose to look like. It reminds me of the game simon as a floor mat I guess it is ok.
