Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Limon (1908-72) is considered a preeminent figure in the history of modern dance. His masterpiece, The Moor's Pavanne , based on Shakespeare's Othello, is in the repertory of ballet and modern dance companies the world over. In 1955, Pollack interviewed and observed Limon at home and at work. The result is a two-part study, divided into "Life" and "Work." Concentrating on the dancer, "Life" chronicles Limon's personal life and professional career. The spotlight is on dance in "Work," where Pollack traces the development of an idea to its first performance. Narrative is enhanced by many direct quotations and pictures. As the first full-length biography of Limon (Daniel Lewis's The Illustrated Dance Technique of Jose Limon , LJ 8/84, begins with just a chapter on his life), this belongs in every dance and performing arts collection.
