Queen of Tap in "Born to Dance",
By
This review is from: Born to Dance (1936 Movie Soundtrack) (Rhino Handmade) (Audio CD)
This is a amazing MGM-Musical Soundtrack, some parts are in gloriusand early STEREO-Sound. This Release by Rhino Handmade is numbered and limited to 2500 copies. (I have No. 397).
And yes I love this fantastic score. The disc has with 18 Tracks a lenght of 68 min and containts the complete "Swingin' the jinx away" with 13:21. And yes, also the "Rap Tap on Wood"-Track is in extended Version on the Disc. Track 16 and 17 are the unused Version of "I've Got you under my skin" and Track 18 is a unused "CENCORED" Version of "Easy to Love": Some scenes in the movie and words in the songs are "gay"-themed. This is James Stewart only appearance in a musical film and yes, its' his own singing voice you can year on the CD and in the movie!!! Only Eleanor Powell's voice was dubbed by Marjorie Lane. - its a must have it -

I finally bought this outstanding soundtrack. It's worth every penny. It's spectacular and one of the greatest scores Cole Porter ever wrote from one of the most entertaining movies ever made. If you haven't seen Born to Dance treat yourself to a great time. And then, buy the DVD and this amazing CD. The soundtrack of the movie has always sounded years ahead of anything else recorded in the 30's. This release is even better from the original optical soundtracks (some from alternate takes). Some of the tracks are re-recorded in excellent stereo--from 1936! You won't believe how good this sounds--I only wish Toscanini had sound anywhere near this. Hollywood was on the forefront of great sound. Buy before its discontinued! Amazon did a great job in delivery.

Whatever positive any of these reviews say about this CD, it can't adequately
describe what a delight it is. The Cole Porter songs are magic and so 'easy to love', the audio recording is full and clear, the singing (even James Stewart) and orchestral arrangements are a pure delight. Stewart said that even his singing couldn't hurt 'Easy To Love'. A great companion to the video and a charming memento of the time when it was recorded.
