5.0 out of 5 stars The foundations of funk...
We put this on @ carnival in 2003 and the whole street came down to us!

That's the power of this music. The gumbo of RnB/Soul/Gospel/Rock n Roll/the advent of funk/acid swillin' platform stompin' grooves that just won't lay down!

The whole cd is like one movement. it comes it at around 40 mins, so just stick it in and hit the floor...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sly
Sly & The Family Stone are my favorite artist of all time. I have everything they made. I was disappointed at this album only because mostly every song on here sounded to much like the title track. If you are a big Sly fan then get this album, people who don't know where to start, I'd start with the album "Stand!" first.

The transfer is crisp and clean, too, making it sound as fresh today as it did almost 40 years ago!

Essential funk theories.

...at how much better sly and the family stone are to everyone else. What a record! every track a funky masterpeice and how good is the production? You just simply can not fault them. After owning all their records this was the last one on the list and its right up there with the rest of the masterpeices ; stand fresh a whole new thing and of course riot. Nice one

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pure classic funk album, September 4, 1999
This review is from: Dance to the Music (Audio CD)
Surely the best Sly & The Family Stone album ever released? Every track a stomping funk masterpiece. The unbelievably timeless, pounding, grooving, relentless, uplifting funk that is "Dance to the Medley" alone makes the album essential. I listen to that song every day - a true party tune. Get those hands in the air, and wave them like you just don't care. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have, August 26, 2005
This review is from: Dance to the Music (Audio CD)
Dance To the Music is a good dance song. What's really nice sbout is that you hear different instruments come in at a certain time. Like when Sly says "you might like to hear my organ" the organ comes in. I love Dance To the Medley. There is 4 songs in it. The song is a little over 12 minutes long. Color Me True is a good song too. It makes good statements about the everyday things that happen. Soul Clappin' is like Dance To The Music in a way but it's still good. On I Ain't Got Nobody you can hear background singers. That is also a good song.

His first, and along with "Stand", his best. Full of the energy and innovation that made him the best that there was back in '68.

Buy it for "Dance to the Medley": Dance In, Music Lover an Music is Alive. Fifteen minutes of the best there was.
