This was the first of the O'Hurley series that I read, because it is almost impossible to tell which one goes first! (FYI, for those who like to read things in order, I have now learned that "The Last Honest Woman" comes first, then this book, then "Skin Deep", and last, I think, is "Without a Trace".) That said, this book was very enjoyable. Maddy, the "youngest" of the O'Hurley Triplets, is a dancer by profession and by nature. She has grown up in the theater and knows nothing about hiding her emotions or her feelings -- they are meant to be acted upon! When she meets Reed Valentine and almost immediately falls in love with him, she must learn how to deal with someone who is less forthcoming than herself, and who may never be able to love her the way she does him.

Well, this is a Nora Roberts romance, so we know she'll eventually succeed, but the book was very entertaining and enjoyable in getting to that point. The theater was vividly described, and the primary characters were very sympathetic. Also I especially liked the character of Edwin, Reed's father. This is a quick read but a good one!

I loved this book. I've been reading Nora Roberts for a very short time but I've read over twenty of her novels thus far and this is the only one I've yet to get tired of (I read her books three or four times through, easily). I love the books that involve mystery and intrigue but, on the other hand, I gravitated toward this one because it was simply a woman and a man struggling to find happiness. I adored the Broadway setting and could easily picture myself there, I loved the contrast between Maddy and Reed and the realistic struggles within their relationship but, most of all, I loved the language Ms. Roberts used to weave the tale.

I found that I sat down with the book once, and I didn't want to put it down. I've read it 3 times so far, and I know I will read it many more. If you want a book that has a great storyline and characters, this is the book to read. Also, if you want to read about the rest of Maddy's family, (sisters and brother) you should read Without a Trace, The Last Honest Woman, and Skin Deep.

I loved this book and the others about this family. I've never been much of a reader and Nora Roberts has changed that for me. If you are looking for a book to while away the hours this will do the job. I almost felt silly because at times you felt like crying when the characters cry. Isn't that what a book is susposed to do, take you into the lives of it's characters? Good job Nora - keep-um coming.

Nora Roberts is a romance writer who has the unique gift of being able to put her readers right between the pages of her books. In the case of Dance to the Piper, the reader feels as though they too are a dancer as a new show is about to open on Broadway. And as always with this author there is double the reading pleasure as there is also a delightful romance too.

In the second book of the saga about the O'Hurley family, Ms. Roberts tells the story of the dancing O'Hurley daughter, Maddy. Preparing for a new show, Take It Off, this spirited young woman knows she cannot rest on accolades from her ;ast performances. She fully realizes that it will take both physical and mental strength to make a hit of this show and falling in love at this time is what she least expects to do. But fall in love she does as she meets and then pursues a principal investor of the show, Reed Valentine.

I thought this book was a wonderful read. So adeptly does Ms. Roberts present the life of a Broadway dancer and star that I often wondered if she patterned this character after a real dancer she knows. I actually could see the dance numbers and feel the energy, to say nothing about how enjoyable was the romantic aspect. And as an extra benefit of this book the reader is introduced to Reed's charming father and spends more time with the other members of the O'Hurley family. I always think Nora Roberts's series books are her best and Dance to the Piper is another one of these which I highly recommend.

When I read the premise to this book I tracked it down and HAD to read it. I love any romance that has to do with Dance and I was excited. However I was sorely dissappointed which didn't surprise me because I am not a Nora Roberts fan. I think her female charcters are ALL THE SAME (pushy, arrogant and over-confident, not humble and think they have no flaws whatsoever.) What dissappointed me most about this story was the lack of chemistry between the two characters. Acutally Maddy was somewhat likeable but Reed was dead from the neck up. He came across like a robot. He was "pulled" to Maddy but I had no idea why! I had no idea why Maddy was even attracted to him!! Maybe she wanted a sugar daddy because she knew she couldn't dance to the piper all her life. The conflict in this story was boring. As a matter of fact the last 8 pages of the books were WONDERFUL because of the high drama. Nice climax and I was pulled into the story at this point but unfortunately it ended.

This is one of the best of Nora's. It's a love story featuring Maddy O'Hurley, a talented Broadway actress, and Reed Valentine, high-powered executive, whose company is backing the musical Maddy is starring in. The attraction between them is immediate and strong, but there are risks. Reed's past throws shadows over any possibilities of happiness for them. The plot is well-crafted with realistic contemporary characters. You won't want to put it down. I didn't

I wasn't all together thrilled by this book but it was good. I loved how Nora Roberts throws the readers into the world of dance...and she doesn't describe the dance moves but then again she does. She shows us that the world of dance is anything but glitter and glitz, it's hard work and long hours. It's your life. I liked the romance aspect of it, and I loved Take It Off, but Reed...damn. He was dead from the waist up. He never truly admits to loving Maddy till the end which is frustrating....and Maddy, who claims to be strong, turns into a weeping little kid the moment she "falls in love"...not to mention that what his mom did to him was exactly that...his mom. And he takes it out on the entire female race. Anway, good book but I wouldn't read it again. I love romance novels, but somehow, when I read the last page I was left feeling empty...to me, thats not a good sign. Read it, enjoy it, but don't expect Gone with the Wind kind of love..BW~

DANCE TO THE PIPER is the continuance of the O'Hurley saga and focuses on Maddie O'Hurley - one of the talented triplets who becomes a Broadway icon. Even as a child Maddie was a graceful dancer who could learn new routines at the drop of a hat (as seen with a few well placed flash backs and remembrance scenes in this book). A guest appearance from Frank O'Hurley, the patriarch of the talented family and a flamboyant character himself, shows us that his goal has always been to enjoy life and live vicariously through the fame of his children. His appearances are always a welcome detour from the main plot.

In the typical genre of romance books, this love story is far from a smooth ride but is an enjoyable journey along a bumpy road filled with characters you'll never forget. Unfortunately, the story line is not as unforgettable as those in it!

I thought that the storyline was great and I found Maddy to be absolutely charming and real.The chemistry between her and Reed is extraordinary.
