that the 2 lowest(one star) reviews contradict each other. One thinks the cd is bad because the remixes ruin the originals, while the other thinks the remixes are bad because they sound too much like the originals! I personally like this remix cd cause I have their hits cd, but wouldn't mind having a 'new' take on these dance classics. Most of the songs sound EXACTLY like their original counterparts, just a little edited so the dj can produce some 'new' music to blend the songs together. Some songs aren't really affected except at the beginning and the end, while a few have a different beat or music to it DURING the actual song. Still, the essence of the originals are basically there and recognizable, which is why I really like this.
I must say, I HATE remixes that just ruin the original by making it completely unrecognizable or undanceable. That's why I prefer extended mixes, but this remix cd(it's silly to call this a dance remix since these were already great dance songs to begin with) stays faithful to the originals. My major problem with the cd is that the songs don't always segway into each other smoothly. For a continuoue mix cd, the songs don't flow into each very well in some instances(some of the songs awkwardly transition into the next which disrupts the catchy dance grooves). Also, I have a minor problem with the great mix for "Please Don't Go" which, at 3 minutes, is just waaaaay too short. Those are my two personal drawbacks in an otherwise good release. If you're a die-hard fan, this cd isn't really essential(though still recommended). But for casual fans who want slight remixes that retain the sound of the originals, highly recommended.

KC...with a funky 90's Dance Flavor,

Those who grew up with KC know that is music will never go out of stlye. You can go to any club..throw on KC..and they place will be rocking. This is a fantastic cd. The producer did a very good job mixing KC..without losing the content of the original recordings. I happened to stuble on the cd in a record store. Many of you have probably stumbled on it and said...KC dance remix...yeah right! But let me tell you..this cd rocks!!!!! As a mattter of fact, I was playing this cd on my way home from work, and a guy in a car driving next to me rolled his window down and asked me where did I get this cd. I was trying to put together a workout tape. This cd will be on both side of one tape. Get it..you won't be disappointed. Do you wanna go Party!!

The original versions are much better,

This album is terrible. The original songs are much better. The only song that even sounds any good remixed is Please Don't Go. But the original version of that is much better too. I would recommend The Best Of KC & The Sunshine Band instead. That is much better since it isn't all a bunch of cheap remixes.

Brilliant Remixes!!,

Remix albums are often a disapointment. The best remixes will add drama, build up, or extend the best parts of the original. This CD manages to all of this very well.
Fans of KC will hear the intro to "Boogie Man" and right away will sense a better version is under way. The remixes are done in a way that preserves the body of the original while adding more beats and samples from the songs themselves. When "Boogie Shoes" gets going, you hear all the crispness of the horn section as it pioneers it's way into disco history. The bridge between "Man" and "That's The Way I Like It" keeps the party rolling. And the album rollicks along with a non-stop playlist of tunes from one the greatest disco party bands ever. In fact, what's brilliant about this collection is the way 25 year old music can be brought to new ears while still sounding fresh and innovative. Another reason KC holds up is because of all the real guitars, drums and horns. This was a funk band with a penchant for the dance floor. And their work not only stands up, it stands out! Put this disc in and then let the party begin!

If you like KC and the Sunshine Band, this album will absolutely blow you away. The remixing adds an entirely new dimension to the music. It still has all the rythym and the power, but it gains depth, becomes almost psychedelic. I have to keep myself from listening to this thing over and over, because I don't want to tire of it.

A touch of a 90 dance flavor mix with the old.,

These days artists are sampling music from the early 70s/80s. This is a good collection of the band's greatest hits remixed with the 90's touch. It's a non-stop dance CD...great for getting ready to hit the club scene. The only discouraging thing about the CD...the songs are very short...even though the CD jacket states six or more minutes per song. A great buy!

Good Collection of Remixes,
By affabre (Philly, PA) - See all my reviews

For DJs who likes to beat-sync their mixes, this is a nice collection of remixed disco hits from KC and the Sunshine Band. As mentioned by another reviewer, this CD can also be used as medium-tempo exercise music when listened to in continuous mode because of the lack of silence between tracks.
Tr BPM Time Title 1) 114 4:26 I'm Your Boogie Man 2) 113 4:06 Get Down Tonight 3) 109 4:50 That's the Way (I Like It) 4) 106 3:46 I Get Lifted 5) 110 5:13 Keep It Comin' Love 6) 112 3:50 Shake Your Booty 7) 112 4:51 Shotgun Shuffle 8) 111 3:31 I Like To Do It 9) 109 2:38 Wrap Your Arms Around Me 10) 120 3:37 Boogie Shoes 11) 123 3:30 Do You Wanna Go Party 12) 126 3:56 Give It Up 13) 118 3:50 I'm A Pushover 14) 96 3:16 Please Don't Go These songs became hits before digital sampler keyboards and drum machines came into widespread use for dance music in the mid-80s. What this CD generally does is add modern intro and outro beats to the original radio edit versions of the songs, giving modern DJs the added beats used in the beat-syncing/crossfading style of mixing. A little surprisingly, most of these remixed tracks are only between 3:30 to 4:50 in length (the whole CD is only 55:24 long), and some of the remixes on this CD are actually shorter in length than the original extended versions of the songs. Again, this is because when you remove the intro and outro beats, you essentially have the short radio edit versions of these songs. If you're used to DJing these songs in their original form, you might find these remixes unnecessary. After all, most of these songs already have very powerful introductions and can easily be dropped in with full impact to the dancefloor. But if your repertoire and DJing style leans more towards beat-syncing, you might find these tracks useful as a way to mix in a retro set without losing a beat. "Keep it Coming Love" is a little unusual as the beats don't kick in until around 0:50. "Do You Wanna Go Party" starts with thirty-two counts of flanged-effect beats that could sound well coming out of a set of modern house music. "Please Don't Go"--yes, the ballad--has added drumbeats and breakbeats that give it a quasi-Soul II Soul kind of feel. Sound quality of this CD is excellent. Crisp highs, tight bottoms, and very nice dynamics. A modern "808" type cymbal and kickdrum seems to have been added throughout several of the tracks to update the overall sound and timbre. 4 out of 5 only because the original versions of these songs were so outstanding to begin with, and will always be quite hard to ever match up to!

These are remixes of the classic KC hits. Very well done. They add new dance, kind of electro, dance-hall rhythms to the standards. While not incredibly creative, this album is definitely worth a listen..I recommend it.

I chose this instead of a greatest hits collection simply because I enjoy house remixes of old disco tracks and that's what this is. Great sound, but beware - it's not the original hit you knew. Yes, you'll recognize it, but if you're a purist, steer clear.
If you're not a purist and can appreciate the connection between disco and electronica, snag this little gem. |
