I just received this game today and started playing it. For years I have wanted to find something that is fun and exercise, something that doesn't feel like a workout. I have purchased workout video after workout video and either never did them, or did them once and that was it. This game is so much fun and you don't even realize that you're getting exercise at the same time. I am 31 years old and I totally love this game. I think I could do it all day long! You get a great workout and have so much fun. I have only tried "freestyle mode" so far, but I plan on trying everything. In freestyle mode, you get a letter grade for your performance. I started off most songs getting a C or even a D and am now getting A's on all of them. There are way more advanced modes as well. This game will keep me busy for a while and hopefully burn a lot of calories. If I enjoy this game and actually use it, so will you. I promise it will be a great investment, no matter what your age is. Buy it!!!

I love this game. I haven't played other DDR games before, so I'm not sure how it compares to others, but this one is great.

The mat or pad that comes in this bundle pack seems to be of pretty decent quality. It's got a sticky bottom so that it doesn't slide all over the place (though it does shift after a while). Sometimes I think it doesn't count steps that it should, and sometimes it gives you credit for things I think you shouldn't. This doesn't happen a lot and I wouldn't really consider it a problem. The only thing I wish the mat incorporated was some sort of texture on the arrows themselves, or even just in the middle. One could argue part of the game is knowing where your feet are, but I just wish I could center myself by feel, because when I look down in the middle of a song, I lose track of the screen.

The game itself is really great. Some of the songs I like a lot, and some I don't, but they're all a challenge and fun in some way. I like to use the Dance Master mode in which you have to unlock songs by doing well. I haven't made it all that far because I play the same levels over and over again because they're so fun. This game is great for people of all ages, and includes music for the young and old.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this!!! (Great for the whole family!), December 26, 2005

I already had DDR Max 1 and a Dance Mat, so i set out to buy DDR Extreme 2 (because my cousin has it and I loved it). When I came to the store, I decided to purchase this, with another dance mat. I am 13, my sister is 7, and my brother is 16 and all three of us plus my parents love it!! Keep in mind that this game gives "grades" for how well you do, though--AA, A, B, C, D, E. My sister is kind of sensitive and got upset when she got a bunch of D's and E's playing the game. There are also different levels: Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy. Standard is almost impossible and Heavy pretty much IS impossible but the game is still so much fun. I suggest two dance mats instead of just one if you are buying for the family because it's more fun to play "versus" than "single"! The one complaint I do have with this game is that at first it was hard to figure out, but then it was great! There are three modes: Dance Master Mode, Free Play Mode, and Workout Mode. I suggest Dance Master Mode for kids who like to play video games and accomplish the tasks, Free Play Mode for people who just want to have fun playing the game, and Workout Mode if you are trying to lose weight. THIS GAME IS GREAT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another game in the series., January 2, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 Bundle (Video Game)
First off, let me just saying this is an awesome deal. A 50$ game plus the pad. So with that said, let me talk about this wonderful game.

Extreme 2 introduces all new songs with no oldies included. That could be a good thing or a bad thing but for me that's great because the other ones got old. E2 has a new mode for unlocking songs called Dance Master Mode, sort of like it's one single player adventure mode, where you must complete certain songs to unlock more songs and advance farther on the map, or you can unlock the songs that traditional way by playing lots of free play mode.

Another really cool feature in Extreme 2 is Workout mode. It lets you set how many calories you want to burn, and then you play till you burn them off. You also have a daily log to show your progress of calorie burning.

So with over 5 different modes and tons of new songs. How could you possibly go wrong with buying this game. You can use it to workout and have fun. Excellent price and excellent game for newbies and experts.

I got this game a year ago and was worried at first that the game pad wasn't durable enough for heavyset folks but it is. This is great exercise if you like to dance and don't mind making a fool of yourself. I've worked my way up to the standard level songs with an A on one or two of them. I also have DRR Max 2, DDR Extreme, and DDR Supernova and this was my first and still favorite of the games. I love the master mode and take a break with the freeplay mode. It's fun when I play at arcades and a kid will tell me that I'm the best grown up they've seen on this game. I still get stomped by mutant teenage boys but at least I can humble my own nephews and nieces.

I finally have an exercise regime that I look forward to doing. I found it easy but challenging enough in beginners level, (sweat and sore calf muscles). And after 2 weeks I was able to move up to the light level. (I still do not have a handle on the really fast songs in the light level, though). I can't help but have a smile on my face as I play, and when it is harder and I mess up....well, I find myself laughing with glee. How great is that? I am excited because not only am I getting a good cardio workout, but I am also improving my reflexes. So far I have just used the Free Play Mode. While wearing an X-Vest, I do all of the songs. That comes out to over an hour of fun exercise (with added weight)! As soon as the memory card arrives for the Playstation, I will explore Workout Mode and Dance Master Mode.

I read the other reviews before I purchased this bundle (Target via Amazon) and I think I got a good deal. I like the music. The graphics are fun. The pad seems of good quality. No problems. My only concern is that while using this particular pad, one has to be barefoot. Easy for a youngster, not so great for a 54 year old! (Although it is easy to perform beginner level at low-impact, light level requires lots of hops and jumps). I know eventually I will purchase a better, pricey mat that can handle the shoes but in the meantime, I am sucking it up and loving it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

5.0 out of 5 stars Konami improves on an old favorite once again., October 4, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 Bundle (Video Game)
I've been playing DDR for a while, but DDR Extreme 2 is my favorite without debate. There are so many more songs to unlock than the other titles in the series. The songs appeal to many different audiences. The graphics are wonderful. Also, the Beginner mode helps ease people into the game. (I was already on Standard mode when I got this, but my friends play on Beginner.) The Challenge songs offer more interesting step combinations, and in some cases, lead you into the harder Heavy songs. DDR is a great way to get in shape and have fun. I've also found that it's helped with my eye-foot coordination, what with all the arrows flying at me on Heavy. Unlike some of the earlier games, the game doesn't run out of hard songs to do once you master Heavy mode. It's got a song rated "10!". All in all, this is the best game in the series.

I have to admit that I am 32 years old and I love this game!!! I played it once with my 7 year old niece then had to buy it for myself. There are easy levels that I can actually do, all the way to super hard in which I don't have a chance. The only downside to this game is that I can't play when my downstairs neighbors are home. They say I sound like an entire heard of elephants when I am playing. It is so much fun you don't even realize that you are getting a workout. It averages about 10 calories per song (they have a mode which calculates calories). I highly recommend this game for all ages!

Every morning between 6.15 and 6.45 I use the ddr. I had stopped excercising 12 years back. I did try to get back...but was never succesful at keeping the continuity.
Its been 15 days since i got my mat. I havent missed a single day. I'm sweating well. Eating and sleeping better. I feel lighter already(though i may not look it.) and I'm having a lot of fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game for adults too!, February 4, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 Bundle (Video Game)
My first exposure to this game was when my neice received it for Christmas. The music and challege was too much to resist, so I started doing it and soon realized that I wanted one of my own. I didn't even own a PS2, but bought the works and have started dancing.

Minor issues: I find navigating between screens and menus a little confusing, and some of the on-screen directions are vague. I would like to be able to add some of my own favorite songs, but if that's possible i haven't figured it out. [I probably just need one of my nephews to show me. :-) ] Finally, the first dancepad had a short in it, but GameStop replaced it without question and the second one has worked fine so far.

At 50, I'm not as agile at doing the jumps as kids would be, but I'm getting better! It's great fun and I plan on using it to help me lose weight and keep myself in tone and with strong bones for years to come.
