The Dance Survey: A Forthright Telling of Senior Romance and Adventure

For the first couple of chapters I found myself returning to the back of the book and the "about the author" blurb, trying to figure out if the book was fictional or not. Part of the disquise is the cover itself, looking more like a textbook than the cover of a novel. I wonder how many copies a harlequin romances would sell with a similar cover?

The book describes the romantic involvements the main character, Tom Dailey, encounters as he attempts to survey middle aged swing dancers about the social side of dancing, up to and including any sexual partners that evolved from participation in swing dancing. Despite the occasional misspelling and the rampant over use of bold type face, I found the book quite interesting and a pleasent read. I really don't know what target audience Mr. Janssen is searching out, but the main character is in his mid fifties, recently widowed and in search of a new path. There is certainly a large enough segment of America in a similar situation, going through the death of a spouse or a divorce and in search of a new path/relationship.

The book tackles the physical side of over 50's relationship in a honest and romantic way. I do however, find the character of Tom to have far to much integrity for the task at hand. You may agree or disagree, but you will have to read the book to decide.
