"Dance Dance Dance" is the best Chic album, because unlike other "Best of..." efforts, these are full length (either album versions or 12-inch singles). As another reviewer opines, that fact makes this compilation the best value for the money (or otherwise).
It is way TOO easy to dog out disco. But it was equally incredibly easy to dance to, to the point where it is almost impossible to sit still while this music is playing. The sound was infectious, which in part is why it is so regularly sampled even by "musicians" of today (I hope that home-girl Luci Martin and the rest of the group get their royalties from those today who flatter by their imitation!).
These are among the songs which made disco what it was. From "Dance Dance Dance" to "I Want Your Love", "Good Times" and of course "Le Freak", this has all their best. I cannot think of another disco group which had so many number one hits.

Disco got such a bad rap after its demise, and who would be surprised? Most of the mainstream hits were cheesy imitations of the Real Thing: Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'," Rick Dees' "Disco Duck" and so forth. Chic, however, delivered the Real Deal, offering serious grooves and memorable basslines that would be sampled by every other rapper. This hits collection is flat-out perfect. Not only do we get the hits, but they're in their full-length, 12-inch versions. That's very important for a group that was a hit in the club scene. What's to dislike about "Good Times," "I Want Your Love," or "Dance Dance Dance?" Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers were geniuses, and Tony Thompson is one of the most overlooked drummers out there. Rock conniseurs may shake their heads in contempt, but old school dance lovers will know that Chic was one of the baddest groups around. It's time to recognize!

This collection proves the late 70s was a great time for dance music. Along with Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Grace Jones and Saturday Night fever there was Chic, with their minimalistic but elegant grooves. My favorites on this collection include Everybody Dance, Le Freak (which was a sort of mini anthem), I Want Your Love, Good Times and Savoir Faire. These are the extended mixes, not the original singles, but that means more value for money! Something in the blend of tight guitar riffs, vocals and sublime arrangements just grab you; this is dance music you can listen to. And if you want more of the same, check out Norma Jean's album Saturday and anything by Sister Sledge. Bring back the Seventies!

This CD is not only amazing but also worth the price. Rogers and Bernards are so exceptional in coming up with all the tracks. This is one CD that collectors of disco music should have.

Ah yes, the disco era. I can't speak very much as far as experience is concerned (I was born in '76), but I have foggy memories of the stuff my dad was listening to. It was my father that introduced me to music and it was also my father that introduced me to Chic at the ripe old age of 4. This CD has some of Chic's biggest hits from 1977 - 1982. There really aren't any negative things to be said about this album. Their biggest hits come in 12" dance mixes which is perfect since this is dance music we're talking about. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards are geniuses, but if you know anything about Chic then you already knew that. Every song is a party starter. And if you're tracing the roots of rap music, you'll find this group somewhere in the lineage (they are the creators of the smash single "Good Times" which was sampled by The Sugarhill Gang which spawned the first powerhouse commercial rap song "Rapper's Delight". And I could just get lost in the instrumentals of the classic "I Want Your Love" (especially after the three and a half minute mark). There are classic songs all throughout the album though.

While disco may be dead, the beat still lives on in the hearts of those that were in the clubs dancing their problems away in the 70's. I wish I was old enough to experience the good music of the 60's and 70's as it was coming out. You can just tell that the quality of the music was better. If you want a taste of the genius that is Chic, then grab this album and give it a spin. I may be too young to remember the 70's with any clarity, but I'll never let go of the great music that the era produced.

Standout Tracks: Good Times, Dance Dance Dance, Le Freak, Savoir Faire, and I Want Your Love (My Favorite)

Contemporary critics are just now waking up to the fact that Chic were musical pioneers - Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards created some of the most melodious, icily slick dance music ever heard. Great musicianship - first rate. All the big hits are here - and to understand the band even better, get "The Best of Chic II."
Classic music which was and is sometimes still imitated, but never has been quite equalled. Listen to "I Want Your Love," and "Good Times," as well as "Le Freak," and revel in the wicked bass lines and jazz-influenced guitar work that made Chic a true original. Excellent!
