Roland Cheek is the ultimate story teller! I have just reread this book.... it is that good! This well-written autobiography gets you from the first hello, and you can't put it down! Roland tells the stories of their lives, the valley and mountain-top experiences, how they went from making a living to building a beautiful life together...... showing others how to get the most out of life.

I bought this book used, and was delighted to find that it was autographed by both the author and his wife, Jane. From the very first page I was hooked on Roland Cheek's folksy, honest writing style and his deep love for his wife. It's part autobiography, part a tribute to his brother who died in a plan crash at the end of WWII, and all about the wilderness he loves so much. The two of them, over 20 years, built a guiding business, taking tourists by horseback into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. He tells of the hard years when not enough money came in, and of the years when Jane wanted to give up on the business. He tells amusing stories of the many hundreds of memorable guests they had over the years, and of cantankerous horses, drought, blizzards and forest fire, and always of the beauty and tranquility of "The Bob". I especially liked that he sprinkled many photos of family, guests and wilderness scenes among the stories. Mr. Cheek's writing style makes him feel like an old friend and I really did enjoy this book. I'll be looking for some of the other books he has written.
