enjoyable series,

This review is from: Dancer's Illusion (Mass Market Paperback)
Ann Maxwell wrote three of the "Dancer" books in December 1982 and April and August1983 published by Signet ( Fire Dancer, Dancer's Luck and Dancer's Illusion) She created a wonderful fantasy world and a couple of characters that as in her other Sci-Fi books, have a relationship that is nothing short of wonderful and intense. I am sorry to say that I have waited 16 years for her to finish the series. So far as I know she has not done so. Despite this, readers will truly enjoy these books.

Good to the last drop!,

Dancer Illusion, is the last book in the Fire Dancer's seriers; it shouldn't be, but it is. It was as well written and imaginative as the first books. Your worst nightmares could not have taken you to some of the places that Rheba & Kirtn have found themselves; and yet Maxwell's books are not horror stories. The love story between the Fire Dancer and her Bren is pungent, strong and very sweet; and yet there is little or no sex in these books. The beings that they surround themselves with, hold their own special place in the readers heart. Nothing and no one is trivial. The girl can write! What a read!

sci-fi/romance,

I'm amazed how many *other* people still care about these books. I read them as a girl in the early 80s and have never forgotten them. I found a copy of fire dancer in a used bookstore several years ago and am just reading it for the fifth or sixth time. I still like it as much as I did as a child. She's so original. The characters are great -- the snake, "rainbow," the j/taals.

An excellent combination of Romance and Sci-Fi,

This review is from: Dancer's Illusion (Mass Market Paperback)
I started in the middle of this series a few years back. I am an avid fan of Sci-Fi yet I still have the all too female urge for romance. I have read several novels which have tried to combine these two disparate genres but until I read Ann Maxwell's Dancer series I was alway left a little disappointed. This series is a complete mesh of the 2 styles. It's not just a "romance novel in outer space". If you like both of these genres then you will love this series.

As a great fan of Elizabeth Lowell,(ie.Ann Maxwell), I was really impressed with her sci-fi story line " Dancers". This is a wonderful read if you love sci-fi or romance. Ms. Lowell always delivers as a historical, contemporary, or futuristic writer. My only complaint is that unlike her other series, "Only...", "Enchanted..." "Warrior...", you are left hanging. I don't mind looking forward to the next character's story line after the one I've just finished reading comes out but I don't like to be left hungery. Oliver Twist's " please sir, can I have some more " leaves a bad taste in my mouth. On the other hand you can bet I'll be first in line to buy the next installment. Does anybody know when the next one is due?

About a year ago(?), when I was looking for Winter Fire, I tripped across Fire Dancer and Dancer's Luck. I saw the name Ann Maxwell & decided that I'd chance a more sci-fi bent on an Elizabeth Lowell book. I'm happy to say that was a great day in my life. When I finally found Dancer's Illusion, it got even better. Seeing the bond growing between Rheba and Kirtn set my heart aflutter all over again. Now... ... ... I'm not given to begging but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE continue the Dancer series, or if not continue, complete it for those of us who hope for the Future Bren & Senyasi alike!! What A Triumph Of A Book !!!!

I also would love if she would finish this series. I read these books in the 80s and just gave them to my roomate who loves them as much as I did. We wish that she hadn't stopped before finishing the series. Does anyone know if she has written other sci-fi/fantasy under the names Ann Maxwell or Elizabeth Lowell?
