This is an incredibly beautiful and powerful collection of music. It transcends genres and imparts a positive, profound, and extremely important message to all who listen. Its themes are at once timely and timeless, expressed succinctly by flutist Nestor Torres himself when he says, "We are living through a very challenging and difficult period in human history. Therefore, at this time, I have chosen to transcend my identity as an entertainer and take on the role of artist as an agent for change." Deeply affected by the tragedy of 9/11, Mr. Torres traveled to New York to meditate and play his flute at various houses of worship throughout the city. Most of the songs on this album evolved from those improvisations. The other primary influence for this project is a composition inspired by a lecture given in Florida by the Dalai Lama. Its title: "Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law." The positive energy from Nestor Torres' performances on DANCES, PRAYERS & MEDITATIONS FOR PEACE is palpable, with moods ranging from reflective ("A Widow's Meditation" and "St. Peter's Prayer") to joyous and festive ("Dance Because You Can" and "House Call"), and the music incorporates elements of hip-hop, Latin, and reggaeton in rich orchestral, world, and classical settings. I've been a big fan of Nestor Torres for many years now, and this latest work has eclipsed anything that has gone before it. Simply put, DANCES, PRAYERS & MEDITATIONS FOR PEACE comes with my highest recommendation! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN

I recently attended a wonderful convention for peace,culture & education celebration in Denver over the 6-30-06 weekend.

Nestor performed, he expressed life in the most magnificent form on stage! It was truly breath taking!!!

His expression and intent for sharing the joys of life emerged
and moved everyone to tears!!! I have been humming the beautiful sounds and feeling the passion for life! (Plus, I just bought your recent CD!) I look forward in sharing this with my family & friends!

Although I have recited Lotus Sutra for almost four long decades, honestly I always felt some kind of hesitation to do so. Now, I found the new interpretation is possible in this way wonderfully by the artist like you, I feel so much joy. It turned out that doing gongyo is much fun. We love you. I have been a Nestor Torres Fan since I saw him with the Philly Pops(twice) and then in a small club venue in Boston! This CD combines his wonderful latin jazz rhythms with his spiritual side which he talks about freely. An unusual combination on one recording but it certainly WORKED well for me!(A jazz lover and a yoga lady)(Smile)

This CD is my first experience with Nestor Torres' music. I found it to be a beautiful, gentle, collection of flute tunes, but not boring at all. It is clear that Mr Torres was spiritually inspired to create this music, but he is also an excellent musician, so the music isn't easy listening music. It contains interesting melodies and some unusual vocal and instrumental accompaniment. I will certainly be looking for more of this talented flutist's music now that I've heard this CD.

While I expected this music to be more meditative, it is music that touches my soul. The music is made much more meaningful when one takes time to read the insert by composer to learn of the inspiration and occasion of the birth of these songs.

I heard a couple of tracks from this CD on Pandora and decided to purchase it. The first couple of times I listened to it, I really liked some tracks and wasn't so crazy about others, but this CD has grown on me and it's now one of my very favorites. It's a difficult CD to classify . . . it's not really "smooth jazz" but "ethnic" . . . a little Middle Eastern, a little Asian, some Native American, some Latin . . . with some tracks, just as you get comfortable with the tempo, it changes. The percussion is such a large part of many tracks and that's very appealing, too. Nestor Torres has a beautiful tone, even on high notes . . . never harsh or "screechy" as some flutes can be. Not only do I listen to this CD on my computer when checking email, reading news, etc. but it's also in my car and I listen as I commute back and forth to work. A great CD . . . so glad I purchased it!

If you would like to listen to consumate flute musicianship, please byt this CD. Nestor Torres can play all styles convincingly from classical, jazz, salsa, sweet, and inspiring. The apex of a musical experience.

This is an awesome CD. It is not what I expected and far exceeded my expectations. It should be a part of everyone's CD collection. It literally lifts my spirits when I play it.

simply put, nestor's music arouses a vibrancy, throbbing with hopefulness, that gets others moving and wakes up a spirit to advance. every person i've shared this cd with agrees, that after listening to the music, and allowing the sounds to "wash over" them, they feel a lightness in heart and mind. in a time when music can be so heavy and dark, nestor continues to strive to bring a more joyful feeling to his listeners, and delivers over and over again. go nestor!
