I just wanted to let everyone know who read that review that he doesnt know what he is talking about. Yes this is a STEREO only SACD. SACD was first made only in stereo. There was no surround or hybrid SACD. And if you listen to SACD dont buy the regular CD this will blow it away.Im not trying to be mean just stating the facts. Ive been listining to SACD since 1999 when sony released this format and when I heard Billy Joel I was hooked. Have fun and buy them all because Sony is thinking of not doing SACD anymore and that would be awful.

This music is one of the most effectual soundtracks I have ever heard. As you watch this wonderful movie, the music so consistantly matches what you are seeing. Sets the mood for every scene. As you listen to the soundtrack by itself, it brings the movie back. It is beautiful to listen to on it's on merit.

SACD stands for Super Audio Compact Disc. It is a format developed by Sony for extremely high-fidelity recording and playback of music. It uses an entirely different way to encode music onto a disc than compact disc audio and thus cannot be read by a 'normal' compact disc player. "Dances With Wolves" would not have been nearly so great a movie as it turned out to be if not for the efforts of John Barry. Sure, even with a mediocre soundtrack, it still would have been a very good movie. But, it would not have been great. The soundtrack to this movie is much more than just the "finishing touch." Rather, it forms the very pillars and beams on which the film is built. Famous for his music in James Bond movies, Barry here stirs the imagination with his moving "John Dunbar Theme" and leaves you breathless with the accompaniment to the Buffalo hunt. This soundtrack is SO very well done and such pleasant listening that I would even suggest it to people who have never seen the movie. Of course, I would also urge people to view the film as well - either before or after they listen to the soundtrack. This one earned a well deserved Academy award for the score.

This is a question and not a review. Is this disc multi-channel or just stereo?

For the guys that were complaining about getting this disk and not being able to play it on their cd, if you had looked further down the page (after searching for John Barry) you would have seen the standard cd. Amazon should probably do a better job of letting you know that you are ordering a SACD and make you acknowledge that before processing the order. Also, some SACDs will play on normal cd players. They're labelled as Hybrid disks meaning they will play on SACD players and on CD players.

John Barry has always been a master at soundtracks, but with "Dances With Wolves", he truly scores high points. This is not a standard western soundtrack, but has a wide variety of instrumental and percussion elements that make it truly unique. The "Main Title" and slower numbers stand out as some of Barry's best. It truly is a romantic soundtrack. Do note that this is a stereo only SACD and not Multi-channel. That sound not did not detract me from buying this masterpiece; only a forewarning about what to expect.

This is one of the most beautiful albums I have listened too. If you are looking for soothing music to study by or to just relax, then buy this album. It is wonderful! I highly recommend this album.

This soundtrack takes you from the traffic on the road and to the snow capped mountains, the grassy plains, the lazy river, the grand waterfall. Whatever you enjoy, this soundtrack will take you there, its a must have.....

Many of the reviews here have called this the best soundtrack. I heartily agree. The music is outstanding and really fits the grandeur of the American West. It's very much an epic score. I just finished watching the film "Dances with Wolves" and was inspired to buy the soundtrack.

I recieved my CD and it did not work so i ask to return it. Then...they ask for its size and weight(like i had scales and then had to measure a CD) and they also ask for the ISBN number as if it was a book. I am not sure they knew what they sent me as it came from a 3rd party. None the less it all worked out and I recieved another CD that worked just fine. They were a tad automated. I would buy again.
