About the Author

Jan Marshall, author of "Dancin, Schmancin with the Scars: Finding the Humor No Matter What!” has written another one of her satirical survival books. As a newspaper columnist and motivational speaker she currently specializes in Satire and Survival for Boomers and beyond. Her first humorous coping book "Still Hanging in There: Confessions of a Totaled Woman" focused on family, children and funny domestic matters; still available at Amazon, B&N and electronic venues. A media humorist and host of her own Television series, she appeared regularly on Steve Allen’s syndicated WNEW radio show. In 1986 she founded the International Humor & Healing Institute with illustrious board members Norman Cousins, Steve Allen, Dr. Bernie Siegel and other physicians and healers. A Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and humor consultant to the medical and corporate world, she continues as a columnist for the online newspaper, Senior Correspondents as well as Internet magazines. Her “satirical interviews” with childhood fairy tale heroes called “Where Are They Now?” appears in the anthology “Open Doors: Fractured Fairy Tales.” Jan’s bliss is encouraging people to find joy and laughter no matter their circumstances. She believes that in the fabric of life there are threads of pain and sorrow which have to be healed as much as possible. Yet in between these difficulties often one may find, in actuality, that not a shred of evidence exists that life is serious! “Jan’s writing is so full of humor and a zest for living. Her books literally sing.” —Phyllis Diller

More About the Author

Jan Marshall's newest satirical survivor book, "Dancin Shmancin with the Scars: Finding Humor No Matter WHAT! is available now on Amazon.
The book is a delightful handbook for getting through difficult times and ordinary ones as well. Jan has an inborn knack for turning everyday hassles into amusing vignettes that coax us to take those challenges in our own lives less seriously. While the book contains lighthearted humor, for those currently experiencing distress, there are tips and techniques to guide you to a more joyful place.

Her earlier book "STILL HANGING IN THERE: Confessions of a Totaled Woman", now in it's third incarnation was geared to marriage, children and goofy domestic matters.
The former California Newspaper Columnist, Television and Radio Humorist and Cable TV Host continues in her role as a Motivational Speaker and Clinical Hypnotherapist.

Jan is founder of the International Humor and Healing Institute established in 1986. She worked with board members Norman Cousins and Steve Allen as well as prominent physicians in promoting hope and humor in healing. As a long term cancer survivor, "Jan's Army" acknowledges and sends "Badges of Courage" to other heroes.

Jan is currently the humor columnist for Senior Correspondents and writes satirical essays for several online magazines and newspapers. The Anthology "Open Doors: Fractured Fairy Tales" features Jan's historical, hysterical chapter called, "Where Are They Now?"

Jan lives by the credo that after one deals and heals our grief, disappoinments and life's surprises, in the end
"Not a Shred of Evidence Exists That Life is Truly Serious."

In tough times like this, we are left to our own devices to bring ourselves "up", and Jan Marshall's book is one way to do that.
N. Grimwood
Her advice is to accept situations as they come and "Do Not Put the Blame on Mame, Boys!"

I have seen a number of humor books and this surely is one of them. Only don't call me Shirley. From the moment I set eyes on the cover--a couple of old geezers dancing--I was roped in. Only why is the woman so obviously terrified of this guy? And maybe it's just my eyesight, but it looks like he's wearing a bathing cap. Do you get that kind of humor with Dave Barry? No, I don't think so. In fact, you'll be lucky if he gives you a Danish.

This is also an inspirational book. How many times do we find ourselves asking, "Self? What up?" I think it is very important finding the humor "no matter what" because without laughter, what is there? Tears and misery, that's who, and if you're lucky a small Biscotti. (Forgive all the food references, I'm on a diet.)

I have known Jan, I've communicated with Jan, I've begged her for bribes, but she has decided to let her humor stand on it's own two left feet. As well it should. I think we can all learn a lesson from that. Others might ask, why now? Why not now! Look around. Leaves are brown. It's a hazy shade of Winter.

People often come up to me on the street and ask, "Regis, what is your favorite chapter in the book?" I respond, "None of your stinkin' business, and by the way are you going to eat that Dinner Roll in your pocket?

I kid Jan, because she's a kidder, but she's one of the funniest women I've never known, and if this isn't the most hilarioust book I haven't yet read, I'll eat your hat.

Anybody who knows or reads Jan knows she's a crack-up. Funny words and thoughts just pour out of her, despite manufacturer warnings.
So when she turns her dancing eyes to matters of serious import, the result is a happy one all the way around.

It’s not very often I read a book and can’t put it down. This little book had me gripped and laughing from start to finish and inspired by this incredible lady – Jan Marshall! It is way beyond funny or amusing – it had me laughing out loud. This in itself is the concept behind the book and Jan Marshall’s belief that laughter can heal. I had heard it releases endorphins that are beneficial to health and well being – I must have added a few years to my life reading this!
I agree wholeheartedly agree with the comment that Jan Marshall’s style is very Dorothy Parker; I love both these ladies with all my heart! Now what else has she written? Pat McDonald

Dancin' Schmancin' with the Scars is a very funny book by Jan Marshall, founder of the International Humor & Healing Institue. Her firm belief in the healing power of comedy and laughter was put to the test in serious health issues she describes in her book. She and her laugh-a-minute sense of humor came through it all, and she provides proof of that in 27 short chapters of hilarious moments. Her talent is not all that surprising when you learn she hung out with some of the great ones, including Steve Allen and Phyllis Diller. While in New York to promote her book, she got up at 7 o'clock IN THE MORNING to breakfast with this aspiring writer and present me with my personalized copy of her book before flying back to Los Angeles. Her book opens with a bang: Romance for Seniors where she reveals the best place for seniors to hook up--pharmacies. Be prepared with quips about your latest scar or prescription and you're sure to find love. In Date Night or Me and My Mechanical Man, Ms. Marshall reveals that she once "worked the pole." Fully clothed and wearing a hard hat, since she worked for the telephone company at the time. She winds up with Living a la Carte, in which she reveals her grab-life-while-you-can philosophy through a hilarious story about ordering want she wants in a restaurant that says "that's not on the menu." This is a funny little book by one of Hollywood's insiders. Thumbs up from Timothy Hurley, author of Shortstack, funny stories.
