Exuberant and Fun, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Dancing on the Ceiling (Audio CD)
A fine rendition of the song triumphs of this 1930's British stage and film star. From the tuneful "Dancing on the Ceiling" and exuberant "Gangway" to the joyful "When You've Got A Little Springtime In Your Heart", this cd provides a good introduction to the singing style that made Jessie Matthews a star both in England and internationally. Most of the 22 songs on this cd are captivating (and reflect that infectious enthusiasm characteristic of many popular tunes during the Great Depression). There are, however, a few songs which, although pleasant, are fairly routine. Nevertheless, for those who enjoy popular songs of the 1930's with an English flavor, this is a recommended addition to any collection.

Nifty little album of songs, August 21, 2009
This review is from: Dancing on the Ceiling (Audio CD)
I just discovered Jessie Matthews a few days ago via [...], and thought I'd give one of her albums a try. Glad I did.
Although few, if any, of the songs on this cd re enduring standards, I've found each one a delight, not only because
of the charm with which Miss Matthews sings them, but because of the rich background orchestrations.
Great for listening to while driving around town. A real cheerful little earful, as well as a chance
to listen to what folks back in the 1930's were listening to before the war came and changed so much.
