Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Seems like anyone who gets paid for writing is qualified to write a "how-to" book encouraging wannabe writers. Here, Hahn, author of Disney's Animation Magic: A Behind the Scenes Look at How an Animated Film Is Made (Hyperion, 1996) and the producer of Disney blockbusters The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, adds his thoughts. Hahn tells us "if I can do it, you can too," and his chatty, anecdotal style is warmly encouraging. But this is motivational reading, not a practical guide for serious students. To develop or reawaken a creative spirit requires both a lifestyle that nurtures the imagination and a certain amount of passion and energy. Creative people are creative because of the interesting, unorthodox ways they lead their lives, not because of the promise of profit or celebrity. Humorous, but not a necessary purchase.ADenise S. I work in the animation industry and swear by this book because it always helps me get through "Artist's Block". It is a quick read too so it is always something I have by my desk.

I found this book a wonderful one to have by the bed and read each night. Some of his stories are hilarious and the wisdom subtle but there for the taking. Five stars in every way.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Miss with a Title Like This!, November 17, 2001

This review is from: Dancing Corndogs in the Night: Reawakening Your Creative Spirit (Hardcover)
Written by one of the animators on Disney's Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, this is a wild and crazy look at the life of creativity. Hahn's joy in living and creating leaps from every page.

But along with the humor, the book is full of solid advice on creativity. He talks about the scariness of taking risks, the frustration that can come when things aren't going right, the downright hard work of making a dream come true, and the amazing thrill when it all happens the way you dreamed it would.

Packed with illustrations from Hahn's life (the dancing corn dogs are from an ad for the refreshment stand at a drive-in), humor, and inspiration, this is an inspirational read in the sense that it will inspire you to get up and get going to something creative. This is a great book!
