5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and beautiful book!
I bought this for my daughter's first birthday and we love it! It is filled with Degas' paintings and a fun ryhming verse. It's a great way to introduce your little one to classical art in a format geared toward little readers.

2.0 out of 5 stars We bought several books in this series before I realized I just don't like them that much
Can't fault the art, it's a great way to introduce kids to Degas.

And the text... well, I can take it or leave it. It sounds trite to my ears, though, so I prefer to leave it. The author's got a tin ear when it comes to rhythm, nothing seems to scan right.

The really bad part about these books is that they're cheaply made. I've had them fall...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book in a great series, April 16, 2005

Bought this book for my 3 year old daughter after she LOVED the Van Gogh book in this series. Gives kids a great introduction to art, and it's a natural for girls in the "ballerina" stage as mine is. The rhymes are nice -- not cloying as they are in so many other kid's books, so I enjoy reading it too. The book ends with tired dancers getting ready to rest, so it's a perfect bedtime book! We've bought several books in this series, each has been a hit.

We bought this for my little guy when he was about 7 months old -- I loved the concept of exposing him to classical art in a way that was appropriate for his age. A picture book with a fun ryming story was just right!

Little did I realize that this, of all his dozens of books, would be the first to really capture his attention! Up to the point at which he decided this was his favorite book, Jack showed limited interest in books. But at some point he decided that books are very cool -- and Dancing with Degas was the first one he expected us to read to him over and over and over -- sometimes five repetitions at a sitting!

He has since added other books to his list of favorites -- but Dancing with Degas remains up there toward the top of the list.

When he turned one year, we got selveral more of Merberg and Bober's books, and he likes them all. But this one is still his favorite.

I highly recommend it! (And if you play Mozart quietly in the background as you read, the dancers seem to practially fly off the page!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to art, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Dancing with Degas (Board book)
Our 7 month old daughter loves the books in this series and gets very excited when we get ready to read them to her. I can only recommend these to anyone that wants to introduce their kids to art in a fun and exciting way. The poems that accompany each picture are fun and relate to each painting, which also helps expand their vocabulary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!, September 17, 2004
This review is from: Dancing with Degas (Board book)
I checked this book out at the library, along with the author's Matisse and Monet books for my 19 month daughter. I love ballet and impressionist art and thought these would be a good introduction. The rhymes are lovely as are the pictures. After reading through them a couple of times, she fell in love with them, especially "gah" as she calls the Degas book. It's funny...she relates ballet to Degas now, too, as she'll she a ballerina and say "gah"!!

my daughter really loves looking at pretty ballerinas & dancers, as many other 4 year old girls, I think. So, I bought her this book and she loves it. We have many of the other art books, but this one is special to her.

Very durable board book, Just enough words to tell a story without keeping you (and the kids) up all night at bedtime. The ending is about sleep, so a great bedtime book. And who doesn't like Degas?

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful board book, July 9, 2008

I got this book for my daughter when she was a baby. She's 2 1/2 now and still enjoys it. I probably like it more than she does. The pictures are just beautiful.

My daughter has enjoyed all of the books in this series since she was about a year old. They were the first baby board books we sought out by author after seeing how much she enjoyed the Matisse one. This one is her favorite lately; she loves to dance around the kitchen when we read it.
