Everything goes back to identity. You and I are created in the likeness and image of God, who has great imagination. As royal children of the dreamer Father, we belong to a different Kingdom, one that is wild and free. There is something about living in the Spirit that is living in the truest sense. So it is okay for us to hold a picture of what we would like our ministry or business to look like. Actually, I think those pictures really started with God, since He is the source of everything good. If He puts a creative spark within us and also gives us the ability to dream with complete freedom, then He will come alongside us and help us--because that is part of His desire as well.
In fact, God always dreams bigger dreams for us than we dream for us. This is why some dreams never seem to come true--not because we should not dream them, but because they are only a small part of the true, bigger dreams that fulfill our longings most completely. I truly believe that this is one of the keys to enduring suffering. What do you do when probably half the Bible is about suffering? You trust Him in the valleys and keep your eyes on the mountaintops. God never abandons us; He only positions us.
