A work of dark brilliance ... a journey into the lower depths of the soul with the path illuminated by flashes of hot lightning.   ~ Toby Grace, Editor, Out IN Jersey magazine

About the Author

My favorite quote about writing is from Ernest Hemingway: "Write hard and clear about what hurts." That's what intrigues me - the pain and internal struggle between what we want and what we actually allow ourselves to do. I write the things people think, but are too scared to act on. Because we all have inner Devils, and sometimes they come out and dance ... whether we like it or not." ~ Taylor Siluwé Writing and directing a ninth-grade production titled Land of the Mandinka (an African Romeo & Juliet) gave Taylor Siluwé a burning passion to write. After studying creative writing at New York University, his first erotically charged short story, "A Taste for Cherries" appeared in the anthology, Tough Guys (Black Books). His work has since appeared in the anthologies, Law of Desire (Alyson Publications), and Best Gay Erotica 2008 (Cleis Press). Victor Hoff (who writes for Huffington Post, Men Of Color blog, et al) sums up Taylor Siluwé's 2009 offering - the darkly provocative short-story collection DANCING WITH THE DEVIL - with these words: "Taylor Siluwé journeys into some of the most hellish scenarios one would expect to find love and yet, as the writer more than capably shows, love, like weeds through brick, sprouts in many of the most unlikely places." Ka-os||Theory, London - put it this way: "...Siluwé's work is something different, a revelation, a bit special." The Jersey City native and amateur shutterbug spends his time writing and taking pretty pictures for Out IN Jersey magazine (most distributed regional for the LGBT community), and sounding off on his website, SGLcafé.com which shines a much needed light on Same Gender Love. Taylor is currently in the process of bringing DANCING WITH THE DEVIL to life.

MESSAGE from TAYLOR:

"Eroticism is the engine of life. I believe everyone loves a steamy tale, whether they admit it or not. My favorite quote about writing is from Ernest Hemingway: 'Write hard and clear about what hurts.' That's what intrigues me - the pain and internal struggle between what we want and what we actually allow ourselves to do. I write the things people think, but are too scared to act upon. Because we all have inner Devils, and sometimes they come out and dance ... whether we like it or not." ~ Taylor Siluwé (pronounced si-LOO-way)

BIO:

Since writing and directing a ninth-grade production titled Land of the Mandinka (an African Romeo & Juliet), Taylor Siluwé has had a burning passion to write. He then went on to study Creative Writing at New York University and has been published in Details, Venus, Literary New York, Out IN Jersey & FlavaLIFE magazines. His erotically charged short story, "A Taste for Cherries" appeared in the anthology Tough Guys. And later, his steamy and apocalyptic tale of obsession run amok, "When Romeo Wakes" first appeared in the eZine Velvet Mafia. His work has since appeared in the anthologies, Law of Desire (Alyson Publications), and Best Gay Erotica 2008 (Cleis Press).

Victor Hoff (Men Of Color blog, The Sword, et al) sums up Taylor's latest offering -- the darkly provocative short-story collection DANCING WITH THE DEVIL -- with these words: "Taylor Siluwé journeys into some of the most hellish scenarios one would expect to find love and yet, as the writer more than capably shows, love, like weeds through brick, sprouts in many of the most unlikely places."

The Jersey City native and amateur shutterbug spends his time writing and taking pretty pictures for Out IN Jersey magazine (most distributed regional for the LGBT community). Taylor is currently at work bringing his dark masterpiece Dancing with the Devil to the screen. Stay tuned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy, sexy, cool, May 6, 2009
This review is from: Dancing With The Devil (Paperback)
It's difficult to sum up When Romeo Wakes, the opening salvo in Taylor Siluwé's debut short story anthology.

A string of adjectives easily spring to mind - shocking, surprising, sexy, surreal, gripping, frightening, brutal, numbing... Oh, and deeply poignant.

When Romeo Wakes makes a statement: Siluwé's work is something different, a revelation, a bit special.

This review is going to be biased, because I'm truly smitten. Dancing With The Devil blew me away; it is, quite simply, the best thing I've read in a very long time, and I've read some pretty decent novels lately.

There's a poetic, hypnotic flow to Siluwé's writing, and at the same time an exciting urgency that sucks you up and whisks you away in a storm of visceral imagery and Machiavellian twists and turns.

Breeding Season, a picture of high school infatuation that crackles with teen angst, is a perfect example; Siluwé eases the reader in, caresses you, toys with you, until he's got you just where he wants you, and then-

BOOM!

The story takes a startling U-turn, not once, but twice.

Beneath Paradise, the third tale, probes "sex and salvation", pondering on the clash between religion and sexuality - and the prisons we build for ourselves.

Pretty Young Gangsters is a highly-charged set piece, a Nihilist tale of lessons not learnt, and one that struck a cord with this reader, in more ways than one.

The grand finale, the eponymous Dancing With The Devil, is perhaps the darkest and most provocative of all the stories here, Siluwé going all out in his exploration of the dark forces inside us all.

Taylor Siluwé's collection is thrilling, brave, truthful, sexy and memorable. The only downside is you'll be left wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Collection of Short Stories, July 6, 2009
This review is from: Dancing With The Devil (Paperback)
Dancing with the Devil does an excellent job in reeling in the reader into the mind of the main characters who dare to explore the darker sides of their personalities. The erotica interlaced in each story is just enough to "take you there" but is tastefully done and not over the top. Siluwé's "Pretty Young Gangsters" and "Dancing with the Devil" are cleverly written and were the absolute best way to end this collection of taboo dalliances. Three cheers for Siluwé!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection, July 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dancing With The Devil (Paperback)
This collection of short stories was probably the best fiction I have read in years. I related to the characters in two of the stories as I have been in similar situations and have thought the same thoughts, felt the same feelings. The stories were exciting and tastefully presented, never dull or boring. Taylor Siluwe' is a bright star in the world of literature and I am anxiously awaiting more work from him.
