3.0 out of 5 stars "Conduct Expected" For The People In Sales And Marketing, April 15, 2008

This review is from: Dancing With the Dinosaur: Learning to Live in the Corporate Jungle (Paperback)
I do have the Mad Love for Lareau, but this book disappointed me. It appears to have a lot of the material presented in "Conduct Expected", only now he drapes it in a metaphor of dinosaurs. "Conduct Expected" used primatology as a metaphor for business life and, as a trained animal observer, I can say that was spot-on. Since dinosaurs don't exist (unless you want to include contemporary birds), this runs thin. He also lays the metaphor on thick in the book, which makes it hard to stumble through - all those "a-saurases". I just felt like it was a dumbed down version of the other book. Given the photo of him with a fake dinosaur, I can only conclude that the book was written as a companion volume for a presentation he gives to people of limited intellect and creativity - ie. Sales and marketing people. They seem to need this sort of palatable childish coating on information that might hurt their little feelings. I suppose if I were blonde/had a 50% lower IQ/ no discernable talents, I'd need all this nonsense to get the very valid messages that everyone needs from Lareau's experience. But, I will stick with "Conduct Expected" and remember which ischial tuberosities to osculate. (By the way, Mr. L., I learned in a zoology lecture that they are called ischial callosities, not tuberosities. Just sayin'.)
