ETA: Every time I come across this book I get jarred by the cover. This story is about a young innocent girl, the woman on the cover looks....well neither young nor innocent.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This short feels like the author had three scenes in mind and then pushed them together without proper foundation.

Charlotte has loved her best friend's brother since they were children. Alex, who is 6 years older, thinks of Charlotte as she was when he last saw her when she was 15, shy, gangly, infatuated, however, she has grown into a beauty. As a favor Alex' mother is giving Charlotte her first season in hopes that she will marry. Not knowing that Charlotte has eyes only for Alex.

Which brings me to the problems. The author gives us three wonderful scenes 1 when Alex sees Charlotte at Almack's for the first time. 2. A hot and heavy garden scene quickly followed by a bedroom scene. 3. The Happy Ending. While the writing of these scenes is very well done there is no build up or anticipation. I never felt that Alex was anymore than a little possessive. Before the garden scene there isn't any "getting to know each other scenes". Afterwards we are told he spends time with her but we are never shown how love develops. In addition, I never see where Charlotte's teenage crush develops into a woman's love.

As for the bedroom scene Alex was old enough and experienced enough not to even go there. Charlotte reminded me of those girls who create an entire romance with someone they see every day and bring too much to the table too soon without knowing the person behind the persona.

A teenage crush and adult lust is what I found here. Well written scenes but bad story telling.

There are much better romances out there. But if you want a simple time pass this is O.K.

This story is so poorly written I am amazed it was published. From the moment the two main characters meet there is a 'tremor" through her body etc.....Then the battle begins about avoiding each other even though they are "love struck" Why this must happen is not explained, it is childish.

This book was a total disappointment. The writing was simplistic and the story was non-existent.
Our heroine has been in love with our hero since she was 15 but to him she's been nothing but his younger sister's gangly friend.
She has now decided to play hard to get in order to get his attention, which of course she does, otherwise of course, this book would be pointless.
The premise, although done before, sparked my curiosity, but the story was really not worth the effort. You get more from the book description than you do from the book.

The title says it all - where is the story here? She goes to stay at her best friend's house in London with intentions of trapping the brother and she does. End of story.

This book's pitch was promising. The story began fairly well. The heroine, however, soon turned out to be a bit immature and it didn't seem to take much for her to suddenly just throw herself at him with little sensual tension at all. There is quite a difference between "making love" and animal sexuality. In fact, the story surprised me at just how fast this couple decided to bed down together given the lack of build-up. It wasn't so much exciting but had you questioning the heroine's self-respect and just how much of a "hero" the lead male character actually was. Considering the era in which this story was set, the couple were lucky that she didn't become pregnant. Disappointed!

Romantic Fantasy

Alexander Thompson, the Duke of Clarington must dance with Charlotte Grant at Almacks of all places. He has dodged the marriage mart for years but his mother the dowager Duchess is sponsoring his sister Lucy's friend Charlotte. Charlotte is in love with Alex since; she was a baby and would love just to fall into Alex's arms.
The problems are multiple. He needs to take care he's not trapped in a marriage he doesn't want. Charlotte wants to marry but wishes it would be Alex.
His sister thinks if he will dance with Charlotte at Almacks; it will assure her of a successful season. Alex remembers the awkward friend of Lucy but is surprised by the beauty that enters Almacks.
What a great romance! Loved every minute of it and you will too. This is a must read. I gave it Five Stars!

Wow, some not so wonderful reviews here, but I'm not a critic so I'll just say I enjoyed the book. I read for pleasure, not to tear apart someone's work. I've read some really bad writing since I got my kindle, and believe me, this is nowhere close to bad. I'd read another Suzanna Medeiros book.
