3.0 out of 5 stars You have to listen to her Italian songs
I am a big fan of current Italian Music (pop/rock), It all started with my sister's taking Italian at The Dante Alighieri school and the arrival of Andres Boccelli, Laura Pausini and Eros Ramazzoti albums in Spanish. She introduce I have since bought all Laura's, Tiziano Ferro's and Nek's in both languages as soon as available. After that started looking for more albums...

I first heard Elisa and saw her perform on a PBS special in December 2007 when she performed with Andrea Bocelli on what has become a DVD: Vivere Live in Tuscany. I was amazed at her voice, her performance and thought to myself: "Who is this? I've not heard of her." After doing some research, I found out she was a #1 singer in Italy, and I started to research her catalog.

It was a time of one "Wow!" moment after another - everything that I listened to was absolutely amazing. I started buying her releases, and in about 2 months I had accumulated everything out there by her, including a phenomenal live performance DVD/CD filmed in Milan, Italy in 2007.

And now those of us in the U.S. will be privileged to share in this national treasure of Italy!

Elisa's voice goes from sweet tenderness on through the full spectrum of emotions - listen to the title track (made popular by the Fox TV show "So You Think You Can Dance"), to the emotive "The Waves" and "Rainbow" (the first single from the CD); then listen to the sweet, gentle song of love "Yashal" and the beautifully sung Leonard Cohen cover "Hallelujah".

Whenever she sings, whatever the style, it is always from her heart, from her soul - there is an honesty in her music that is incomparable. Elisa is a wholly refreshing discovery, and I encourage you to give her a listen, sit back and enjoy, and go to see her powerful performance live this Fall as she tours the U.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goddess of Dancing, August 3, 2008

I am an artist, music is my muse and inspiration. I have a library of just the right music, for just the right painting adventure. After hearing "Dancing", by Elisa, on "So You Think You Can Dance" last year, to a dance choreographed by Mia Michaels, I became obsessive about that song, as well as the video posted on You Tube. The music was not available on Amazon, but would be at some point. Huh! I just couldn't believe it... I wanted it NOW! lol Where can I get "Dancing", I kept thinking. Since I could not find it at the time, I posted the You Tube mentioned on a couple of my Squidoo lenses. A month or so ago, Elisa's name popped up on Amazon, while I was doing a search for other music. I was so excited, "Dancing" had been released to the US! Yay!
I was alone when I played it for the first time, so I turned up the volume and stood in my living room and just took in the magic. Yes, I LOVED it!! "Dancing", which is played twice is of course my favorite, my second being "The Waves", it's a perfect song to take flight in. Her lyrics to all of her songs are insightful and beyond her years. "Little Over Zero" is an anthem to all who mean to reach higher. As I listened to the music, there along in my living room... I danced and then I went out to my studio, Elisa's, "Dancing" in hand and painted.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'DANCING' - a stunning album for Elisa's US debut, July 15, 2008
This review is from: Dancing (Audio CD)
I came across Elisa's music more than ten years ago. That young girl had a stunning voice and a great talent. I immediately fell in love with her music, music that was full of hopes, feelings and courage. I found myself connected to her lyrics describing the world around me, through a different set of eyes, with simplicity and passion. Life is shown in each one of Elisa's songs, even when pain was part of life itself. "Never give up" is what Elisa tries to tell you ("because then comes the Sun", it is like a law you cannot infringe...ever).

Her US debut album "Dancing" collects some of her beautiful ballads. It shows a side of Elisa's music that represents perfectly what I wrote above. You won't be disappointed, I am sure.

Purchase this album if you look for something different.

This project started when a song by Elisa was played on the "So You Think You Can Dance" talent show. The song was "Dancing" and dancers Lacey Schwimmer and Kameron Bink managed to express the spirit of the song thus helping it shine. A few days later it was up to dancer Sabra Johnson who danced to "Rock Your Soul".

The album includes some other beautiful ballads such as "The waves", "Rainbow", "Life Goes On", "A Little Over Zero", "Stranger", and "Electricity" (dedicated to a dancer). Each one of these songs has and is a story. A memory.

I was told that a lot of dancers like dancing with Elisa's music. I thought about it and realized that it's just amazing. It's just art expressing itself. And art can't be stopped. Just like life.

3.0 out of 5 stars You have to listen to her Italian songs, June 22, 2009

I am a big fan of current Italian Music (pop/rock), It all started with my sister's taking Italian at The Dante Alighieri school and the arrival of Andres Boccelli, Laura Pausini and Eros Ramazzoti albums in Spanish. She introduce I have since bought all Laura's, Tiziano Ferro's and Nek's in both languages as soon as available. After that started looking for more albums in the Virgin Store where they had a lot of European albums. Giorgia a lern from her from the Duet with in Romanzza, Irene Grandi from Pino Danielle, Ana Tatangelo from Gigi D'Alesio and so on. Today I listen a lot live RadioItalia.it - even yesterday to the big San Siro Concert "Girlfriends for Abruzzo" fundraiser for the earthquake damage.

Well, Elisa came that way. If you like this album I have to confess that it is less than spectacular. You have to listen to her, singing in Italian. Now that is something. Una Poesia anche per Te or Luce, or Gli Obstacolli Del Quare(the obstacles of the heart) with Ligabue(another monster) from the greatest hits album Soundtrack 96-06, got it here but it is no longer available - discontinued.

I have learned Italian by listening to music, but event when I didn't
one thing I can say, I have stopped listening to American music. Why ? Well if you start listening to Italian music every song is a major production even the simple rock bands. I can say that seeing Laura Pausini in concert with a 9 piece rock band is something. Giorgia for example uses a lot of very well known jazz musicians, Harvey Hancock, Clarence Williams, and others and she has become now a fixture on Montreux Jazz festival as guess singer for these guys.

Italian Music is love and poetry - even the hip hop albums of Gemelli Diversi and the hard edged music of Gianna Nannini or Dolcenera (althou her last album is pure milk and honey - Got it here, Dolcenera Nel Paese Delle Meraviglie )

Italian music may cost a little more but it is worth every penny. There is BTW plenty in MP3 here, so you average your cost.

Listen also to Paola Turci doing top forty covers in Italian - WOW.

Happy Listening.

Elisa has the most beautiful, purest voice. My favorite song is Dancing (track #2) and my 2nd favorite is Hallelujah (track #12). It is a great CD and she is a great artist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dancing, September 19, 2008

I saw Elisa on a special with Bocelli in Tuscani and was impressed. After hearing her album, I'm a fan. I think (and have found) her music won't appeal to everyone but I love it. Whereas there is usually at least one poor cut on any album, I enjoy every one of her pieces and love the tone and quality of her voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars US debut of an Amazing voice and spirit, September 7, 2008

When I first heard Elisa, I was amazed with the power and softness of her music and felt that she was singing with a passion and love of music and life. You would not regret purchasing this album and listening to a truly talented and gifted artist. This album has so many good songs, "The Waves', ` A little Over Zero", "Broken", "Rainbow" and "Life Goes On" that you may be hard pressed to pick a favorite, and don't forget the title song "Dancing" from her US debut album. Her music has appeared on the TV show So you Think that you Can Dance. I hope that she has great success her in the USA.

I had the pleasure of seeing her live for her US debut at Joe's Pub in New York City and Elisa, her band, and the energy of the place was truly amazing. Most of the songs that she played are on this album.

Purchase the album and tell your friends, they will be thankful that you found such a great artist.

She starts touring her in the States, so see her Live if you can, you will love it.

This is my first time buying one of Elisa's albums and so far it is great. The reason why I bought this album was because of the song "Rainbow", but before I bought this album I listened to the preview of the other songs. I totally fell in love. She is a great artist. Thanks Amazon!!!
