Book Description

March 29, 1999
At forty-five, Maggie McIntyre has been abandoned by her husband for a much younger woman. But some old letters in the attic from the first love in her life remind her of the precious summers she spent at the Harvest Moon dance hall so many years ago.

Now she is returning to Little Bear Lake, to the peace of the northern wilderness, hoping to recapture the woman she once was--and the woman she knows she could be again. But time has changed the place she knew. Until a second chance at love makes an unexpected appearance. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In Dancing at the Harvest Moon, a story of first love rekindled, 46-year-old Maggie McIntyre has just lost her husband to another woman and sees no reason to remain in Kansas City. She decides to return to The Harvest Moon, the dance hall where she worked in college. So we go there with her, back to the beautiful Canadian town on Little Bear Lake, where Maggie faces all of those juicy yet unanswered questions: Will true love find her? Will Rob, her first love, finally forgive her? Is she prepared to face the demons that have for so long kept real passion at bay? Author K. C. McKinnon is actually "respected literary novelist" (as she is described on the dust jacket) Cathie Pelletier. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Library Journal

This novel, a "debut" for its pseudonymous author, is being touted widely as the "female Bridges of Madison County," and it should appeal to the same audience. McKinnon is purported to have published seven literary novels under her real name, which was not divulged at press time. The story centers around a newly divorced woman and her journey back to the locale of her first "true" love some 20 years before?an idyllic lakeside retreat in New England. A major twist occurs early in the story, but the rest is fairly predictable. Both characters and story seem familiar, and there are no fresh approaches or surprises. The novel's publicity alone, however, may generate demand; television rights have been sold to Farrah Fawcett, and the book is a main selection of the Literary GuildR. Recommended for all libraries.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good read, June 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dancing at the Harvest Moon (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading all the reviews I thought I would give my own. To the cynics, this book wasn't meant to be Shakespeare, it was meant to give one an escape and to lighten one's heart. That's what it did for me. This book was very well written, I could see everything the author described. I only wish Maggie hadn't waited so long to go to Eliot. I didn't try to compare this book with Bridges, the two stories are different, and shouldn't be compared. I liked the story, and read it in one day, like others, I just couldn't put it down. After I read the book, I found myself thinking of my own first love, and what would've happened if I had stayed with him. I am going to read other books the author has written under both names. I'm sure they will be just as good. Thank you Catherine Pelliter (aka K. C. McKinnon) for writing this beautiful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story, July 4, 1999
By
Harmoni (United States of America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dancing at the Harvest Moon (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a wonderfully-told story of a man's love of nature and the deep love between one woman and one man to be found only once in a lifetime.

I was amazed by the fantasizing and conjecturing that Maggie went through at such times as when she sees flowers on her doorstep or the phone rings. It was quite realistic, and my heart beat faster each time, as I felt her anxiety.

A beautiful illustration (a loon, a great blue heron, the Harvest Moon . . .), credited to Carl E. Hileman, graces the start of each new chapter. Combined with the beautiful story, including letters written between two young lovers, these illustrations wove magic in my heart.

This book is a treasure. If you enjoy it, try _All the Winters that Have Been_, by Evan Maxwell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story!, September 11, 2001

DANCING AT THE HARVEST MOON made my fantasies of rekindling old flames go sky-high. How I would love to be able to do what Maggie did! I cheered for her for finding herself and learning how to be herself and laughed at the levity provided by her friend, Claire. This story is TRUE romance.
