This is a really cute dvd. I would guess the students are anywhere from 5-8 years old in each segment. Each collection shows how to do correct movements, gives the correct name of actions performed and creates a little dance part at the end. I believe it to be a good way to see if your child really wants to take classes, to practice positions learned in dance school and also to excersise. I also think it is a good way to remember positions learned during the summer break from Dance centers.

Great Dance DVD For Kids,
By
This review is from: Dancing for Kids (Baby Ballet / Tot Tap / Junior Jazz) (DVD)
This is a great dvd for children who are interested in ballet, tap or jazz. I purchased this for my 4 year old daughter who has been taking dance for the last 6 months. I thought it would be a good teaching tool during the summer months and give her a head start for the upcoming year. The teacher is good at giving instruction, but you may have to hit the back button a few times to fully understand the moves she is teaching, especially when she puts the moves in combination. The ballet and tap were easier to learn for my daughter. The jazz, however, is more advanced and my daughter just seemed to get lost when trying the moves. I definitely recommend this to any parent who has a child who wants to try dance for the first time or one who wants the extra practice between classes.

Good for non-beginners,

I bought this DVD for my 4 year old. She enjoys dancing around the house, as well as watching a yoga video that I picked up. This DVD was a bit too advanced for her. Although the teacher shows each position, it still goes too fast for a little one who has never had a dance class. My daughter did enjoy the jazz section, and I caught her trying many of their moves. This DVD is great if your little one already has a little dance background. Be prepared to have tap shoes for the tap section, as the teacher focuses on the sounds that a tap shoe makes. We don't have tap shoes and were practicing on the carpet, making it difficult to fully appreciate the tapping. I will probably put this DVD away and bring it out again when my little one is closer to 5.

Great DVD for aspiring young dancers!,

My two-and-a-half year old loves this DVD! The instructor demonstrates each step clearly and then invites the children watching to practice that step with the class on-screen. Each routine is broken down into multiple, easy-to-follow bits and is definately an excellent introduction to dacing in all three styles. My daughter loves to perform the routines, even away from the DVD (like in the middle of the supermarket!) and that shows me that she has truly learned them. I highly, highly recommend this DVD for the aspiring young dancer.

I bought this video for my almost 3 year old. She can't do the moves, but I didn't expect her to. I knew she would simply enjoy watching it with occassional participation, and the exposure would help her with dance classes in the near future. She DOES like this video, and so does my 9 year old (but she doesn't know I'm telling you this). The reason this video doesn't get 5 stars is because Miss Mary doesn't smile!!!! The best way to teach a child is by example, and Miss Rosemary could benefit by lightening up a little and showing us and her class her shining pearly whites! It's okay to have fun and look like it, too!

Great video for young girls!,

Well, I bought this video with some trepidation, because there were a few negative reviews. At the time my daughter was about 18 mos and very interested in gymnastics and music - but of course, way too young for a dance class. We watched it the first time with some dismay - Ms. Rosemary is a little dry, and the first time my daughter didn't pay much attention. But the next week she was asking to see "the girls" and doing the first few steps.
My daughter is now almost 2 1/2 and LOVES this video. We are pretty strict about limiting video time to only one or two hours a week but I worry a little less with this one as she is actively participating in the class, not just sitting and staring. I try to do it with her so it's even more interactive, and so I can reinforce the steps. She loves to watch the girls and the dance steps are taught slowly enough so that, with repetition, she gets the jist at least (my performance expectations weren't high!). She does the hip-hop dances everywhere and has really learned the rhythm as well. This has been a great learning experience for my daughter, who is very physical and musically-oriented. I highly recommend this video for anyone wanting to introduce their young daughter to the world of dance. Also a good way to see if your child is ready for a class. I just wish there were more videos like this - we'd buy them.

Bad Production values,
By Dancin Deena (Ohio) - See all my reviews

Although the kids are cute the production value is like someones home camera. It seems the producers have strung together 3 old videos to make one long tape. The instructor is cold and not endearing which makes me wonder how children can possibly relate to this tape. My child watched it once and now it sites on the shelf. Ebay anyone?

We bought this DVD to encourage our 3 daughters to get up and move. They love dressing up in full dance gear and doing each of the 3 classes offered on this DVD. There is ballet, tap and jazz. Their favorite is jazz which teaches them some fun routines like "Jungle Monkey Swing" with fun, funky moves. This DVD does get them moving and they really enjoy it. The instructor is good, but she is somewhat mechanical and the entire class could be more fun if she were more animated and excited. Overall, a great buy for hours of movement and fun for my children. It is fun to see other kids on TV dancing so well!

A bit too fast for beginners?,

This review is from: Dancing for Kids (Baby Ballet / Tot Tap / Junior Jazz) (DVD)
My sister-in-law, a high schooler who has taken a few years of dance classes at a local dance studio, noted that the instructor in this video seems to move a bit too quickly for beginning dancers. My 4-year-old daughter does enjoy the video and tries to follow along, but she definitely is having a hard time picking up most of the moves. It's a hard balance to strike, though, because you want to go slow enough for beginners, yet you also want it to be advanced enough that there's the opportunity for the person who owns the DVD to grow as s/he repeatedly practices with it. So all in all, I'd say it's a well-done video, but buyers need to be aware of what may possibly be too steep of a learning curve.

It was just Okay,

My daughters were 4 and 7 when we got this video. It was age appropriate for both of them, but never really held their interest. They both were already enrolled in dance class and I felt this was a good reinforcer of dance vocabulary. Some parts of it were very simple, some parts were too complex for them and they became frustrated and stopped watching it. I certainly don't think that the titles "Baby Ballet" and "Tot Tap" were fitting. This was for kids older than babies and tots.
