Beyond the expected...,
By Erika (Albany, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dancing On Air (Audio CD)
Michelle Sell takes her technical mastery and boldly treads where few harpists dare. "Dancing on Air" is an album of interesting and compelling music. Contemporary harp music is often relegated to playing in the background, mostly to set a relaxing mood but not be too noticeable. Sell's musicality, however, makes this not only a beautiful album but also one that has the depth and interest to command attention.
As a composer she winds us through different harmonic landscapes (something extremely unique in the realm of harp music) and revels in that richness. There's beauty in the production and the arrangements, but the hallmark of "Dancing on Air" is that Sell has created music that yearns to be heard and leaves us grateful we did.

Dancing On Air keeps my soul company,

Every morning when I get to work, I put Dancing On Air in the cd player on my computer and play it throughout the day, softly in the background. It helps keep me calm and centered. My favorite track is Hope Valley -- it's a magical melody. Dancing On Air is my favorite since Circle Round the Moon, one of Michelle Sell's earliest--and most inspired--albums. Anyone who enjoys harp music will want to add this to their collection. Can't wait for more!

Beautiful, Healing, and Inspiring,
This review is from: Dancing On Air (Audio CD)
Thank goodness Michelle Sell has released yet another remarkable recording, "Dancing on Air."
I first became aware of Ms. Sell when seven years ago I discovered "Harpestry" on Imaginary Road Records. As a subsidiary of Polygram Records, Imaginary Road Records went around the world and chose their 13 favorite harpists. Amongst others are Michelle, Derek Bell from the Chieftains, and Andreas Vollenweider. Good company for a world class harpist like Ms. Sell. Seven years since "Harpestry" and she is still a talent to be reckoned with as a harpist, a composer, and not the least of which, a musician, who knows what nuance and interpretation of music FOR THE LISTENER is all about. My favorite tracks are "Dancing on Air" which is full of joy and hope and "Midnight Waltz in the Rain" which calms you from beginning to end. My recommendation is to buy the CD "Dancing on Air" right now!
