Book Description

January 20, 2009

Sanjaya Malakar, the most popular contestant on Season Six of American Idol, gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at his meteoric rise to fame on one of the most-watched shows on television.

Despite finishing in seventh position, Sanjaya Malakar was the most talked about contestant on the sixth season of the television phenomenon American Idol. Best known for his flamboyant hairstyles and screaming young fans, Sanjaya quickly became a household name. His unique style, soft-spoken demeanor, and ingenious song selections made him a fixture on numerous entertainment programs and magazines and led to a huge and devoted fanbase that still remains today.

Here, in Dancing to the Music in My Head, he takes fans behind the scenes and reveals what it’s like to star on one of television’s most popular shows, and how the experience forever changed his life. In his own words, he shares how he soared from obscurity to worldwide fame, from waiting on line amongst thousands of hopefuls to touring with the Top Ten finalists all across the country and being named one of Time magazine’s Most Influential People of the Year in 2007. From attending a dinner at the White House to being the subject of parody on Saturday Night Live, Sanjaya has captured national attention in a way that far exceeds that of most ordinary suburban teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligently Written and Thought Provoking, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Dancing to the Music in My Head: Memoirs of the People's Idol (Hardcover)
This is an amazing and quite educational book that will inspire others to pursue their dreams in any area of their lives...if one can muster at least half of Sanjaya's incredible strength. While there are literally thousands upon thousands who have been disappointed and completely devastated by the grueling auditions of American Idol, the soulful insight that Sanjaya shares will help to provide a sound foundation into the nerve-racking experience of those who dare to take the challenge...and that's only in reference to the auditions. His personal message in the very beginning of the book is so intelligently written and thought provoking that it's hard to contemplate what this amazingly talented young rising star will accomplish in the future. This book can easily be implemented not only in one's personal life, but also utilized as a masterful guideline in many facets, hopes and dreams in life in general, especially pertaining to goals that are trying to be accomplished; i.e. business, private relationship, family, self-improvement, meaning in life, self-esteem, substance of beliefs and on and on. A must-have in every household, school, company, etc., that focuses in helping others strengthen their inner-core perception in becoming mentally and physically healthy in today's society...a perfect score of big TEN ones!

Whether or not you are a Sanjaya fan, this is a very interesting look at the whole "Idol" process. For Fanjayas, it's a must! a good read and take it to the beach.
