Excellence,
This review is from: Dancing My Dream (Paperback)
I've read many personal testimonies of troubled lives. This book offers a great insight into the struggle of Natives from all walks of life and to people in general. It touched my perspective of how life should be viewed in a profound way and I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling in life or those looking for a good non-fiction read.

I have not read many books in my short walk on this plane of existence, and even though my thoughts may be considered biased, this book is as good or better than any book I've read. I am not the type of person who shares my emotions that often. It has probably been almost a year since I have been overwhelmed with emotion enough to display it in front of anyone. This book gave me a release. I am extremely proud of this book's author. I always knew Warren was a great man, but I never fully understood until now the hardships that he had overcome.

Uplifting,
By Fiona Lowther "book lover" (Detroit, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews

As a copy editor, an author and a book reviewer, I was privileged to be asked to look over the typescript of "Dancing My Dream" before its publication. I was caught up in the flow of the memoir, because of its openness and deep spirituality. Petoskey has not had an easy life, but he has the love of nature and the gratitude for the gifts of the Creator that are inherent in the Native American way of life, as well as a deep feeling for and awareness of the Christian path, all of which combine to make this book not only uplifting but also heart-lightening. The book is written simply, yet movingly; parts of it are sheer poetry that many will want to re-read almost as a prayerbook. Like the life of its author, it is a treasure.

This was required reading but I was glad it crossed my path. Informative and well done. Good perspective on the native American culture.

Warren Petoskey in his memoir, Dancing My Dream, uses the newly emerging form of Native writing best demonstrated by Sherman Alexie and Simon Otto. Using the time-honored use of oral story-telling, they contain history mixed with legends. Warren in telling his story also gives the reader the history of his people, His respect for his wife and the struggle to stay honorable in a
Euro-American society makes for good reading.
