Superb Poetry, By A Superb Mystery Writer, February 14, 2007
This review is from: Dancing With My Imagination (Paperback)
This second book by Sheila Roy, following her debut novel "Igniting the Spark to Trigger it All," is mostly poetry. Superb poetry! From Vampires to crime fiighting, our imaginations are indeed taken out on the dance floor and shown how to tango with a passion of words and mental imagery. Alongside her lusty tales in verse arises a philosophical array of poetical statements. In the poem, "Transition" we find a deeply seeded ideal that to attain anything -- envolves some personal effort. Words to live by peek through this work at every turn of the page. Poetic insight tap dances from cover to cover. Roy's strict-form-works dazzel the poet for their excellence of construction. Her poem, "Lost and Found" is one of the finest double Etheree form poems that I have ever read. From Haiku to free verse, Roy is definately a contemporary master of poetry. Her passions for life and love are paramont attributes of her work. You will not be able to walk away from this read without being moved to a higher plain of thought -- enjoy the dance!

An adventure in poetry, October 20, 2006
This review is from: Dancing With My Imagination (Paperback)
Reviewed by William Phenn for Reader Views (8/06)
Sheila Roy lives in New Hampshire with her husband and three mini Dachshunds.
Ms. Roy's first book was a mystery novel, "Igniting the Spark to Trigger It All: One Memory Away." But, with her love of poetry, "Dancing with My Imagination" was born.
"Dancing with My Imagination" is a fine artistic representation of Ms. Roy's life and thoughts. In this 177-page collection of her favorite works, Ms. Roy takes the reader on an amazing journey. From the dark shadows of a Vampire's embrace to the wonders of nature, Sheila covers it all. From a dark beginning of "Vampires and the Devil" Ms. Roy takes you into the bowels of hell and gives you her perspective.
Next is the romantic series of her poems, my favorite here being "The Thief of Hearts" trilogy. An artistic brush were her words as they painted the canvas of the parchment for me, I could feel the young lads disappointment myself. Sheila amazes the reader with her versatility by including a chapter of Japanese Haiku's and Senryu's. These are a difficult series of poems that have a certain structure that must be followed. Ms. Roy did an impressive job with these and I think any fan of this style of poetry will find them very enjoyable. From a male perspective I enjoyed the erotic chapter and "Men are like Snowflakes" the best. But I must admit, "the many pages on `Orders' made me chuckle."
It only gets better from there, with "Pleiades," "Etheree's," "Triolet's," "Rictameter's," "Sijo's Quinzaine's," "Double Etheree's," and even some prose. Ms. Roy flows through her poetry like a literary symphony. Hitting every note on key and never once breaking a string.
As a writer and poet myself, I have the highest regard for someone who is as versatile as Ms. Roy. "Dancing with My Imagination" is an adventure in poetry that everyone should take. I thought it to be an outstanding read and gave it my highest A+ rating.
