5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection of traditional banjo music., April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dancing in the Parlor (Audio CD)
Since the 5 string banjo seems so closely associated with bluegrass these days, it is easy to see how its rich and long traditions in other styles of music are sometimes neglected. Fortunately, this fascinating recording, which features the instrument in a variety of musical settings, goes a long way toward correcting the oversight. Wade has assembled a wonderful collection of notable tunes which trace the banjo's use in Western music ranging from classical to oldtime country. Assisted by a number of able sidemen, his versatility is immediately evident as his banjo's voice moves from bright and bounding to sweet and low. While the extensive liner notes document each song's significance, the CD's true appeal is simply the beauty and sincerity of the playing throughout. This would seem to be a "must have" for banjo lovers, but most fans of traditional music will probably enjoy it. It is a unique and impressive recording.
