This review is from: Dancing in the Shade (Audio CD)
If you know Kraan's early 1970s work, Dancing In The Shade requires some adjustments. This is from the 80s, when the commercial viability of true prog was nill. Kraan had already toned down the long jams and avant gaurd elements by [[ASIN:B00004VX79 Let It Out].

This does not mean they were in Tiffany territory. Yeah, the songs are short, the drums pumped with eccho that now sounds dated, and the production is digital. But the bass still drives with a jazz thob and the chord changes are far beyond what you hear on a pop, or even smooth jazz album from the era. Kraan are paying the rent here, but sure are not phoning their music in.

Don't forget that Kraan were filling arenas in Europe during the prog era, and had a following that was big there. Band like the Police, Talk Talk and the Cocteu Twins were still doing compelling work, it just was not the 70s prog that Kraan were able to take to the bank in the era of Yes and ELP. Kraan was in this leauge of a modified, 80s prog.

Worth buying if you can adjust to the new prog order of this period.
