Very boring and laggy; not really a good game at all,
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dancing with the Stars (CD-ROM)
Dancing with the Stars has become a hugely popular TV show that has released many forms of at-home entertainment including several video games that are quite fun. However, this offering, in form of a PC game, is truly horrendous to play; I am very unhappy that I bought it.
You start by choosing the dancer that you wish to dance with which may be either a pro or star. You are then assigned a partner that you are not able to choose. You are given a different dance style (sometimes 2 as you progress) each week to dance, and you create a routine by choosing a series of dance moves on the floor. Although you may not have a clue what moves you are choosing, creating the routine is easy and probably the most fun you will have in the game. After you have choreographed your little routine, you have three minigames that you are forced to play. They are to help your star build personality and technique. Unfortunately, they are very dull games that are better off for a toddler or child to play. There is a basic memorization game, a game that requires you to keep your cursor as still as possible, and a game that requires you to hit certain keyboard buttons at a certain time. Even though these games are childishly simple, there is a huge lag in them which makes them frustrating, to say the least. After you've created your dance and played the minigames, your couple performs the dance and gets judged on it. The dancing is very, very jerky and horrible to look at, and the scoring is extremely generous. It's difficult to get lower than a 6, and even if you do, I don't think you'd have any trouble getting through to the next round because the computer players get atrocious scores such as 13 the entire game. If you do manage to make it through this cycle for all the weeks, then you'll have performed several routines with dances such as Jive, Samba, Waltz, and Foxtrot. If you want to know more about these dances, there is a bonus feature that lets you watch two of the real pros from the show (Karina and Jonathan) perform several of the dances for you. This was a fun and nice feature of the game that helped you learn more about dancing as a whole. One final note is that although the box claims that you will get access to the Dancing with the Stars wardrobe, and choose your dancers outfits, this is simply a lie. There is no such feature anywhere in the game. Overall, this is a horrible computer game, which is only saved from one star because creating the routine is slightly fun, and the bonus dance segments with Karina and Jonathan are really fun to watch. I do not recommend this game for anyone, although I do recommend the Wii versions, which are quite different.

I saw a stack of these at a close out store for $0.99. I think I got ripped off.
Clunky simplistic game play, primative graphics, just a money grab by THQ.
