It's not DDR...,

If you are a big fan of Dance Dance Revolution, don't buy this expecting it to be just a new set of songs to dance to. I've exhausted all the DDR songs, so I bought this thinking it would be DDR with a theme. It's not. The steps are not scrolled to the top of the screen like DDR. Instead there are two scrolling feet, one coming from the left side of the screen and one on the right. Each foot has an arrow superimposed over it. So, if the arrow comes from the left side, you hit the coesponding arrow with your left foot and vice versa. I didn't have a chance to check out the quality of the song selection since I couldn't get beyond the poor mechanics of the game. In terms of the rest, it's set up just like the show. You do your dance, and then there is this aggregiously long load time, the three judges do a critique of your performance, followed by another aggregiously long load time, and then you get your score. Granted, you can hit "X" to bypass this, but there is a long load time before you even get that option. So, if you are a DDR fan, pass on this one. If you actually like Dancing With the Stars, and want to pretend you are on the show, maybe its for you.
PROS: It is compatable with your standard PS2 dancepad. CONS: Everything else.

Not quite ballroom, not quite DDR but still fun,

When I first got the game, I couldn't get past the waltz and it was very frustrating to me. Then I realized that, unlike DDR, you not only have to step at the correct time, you have to release at the correct time, and either shift your weight to your other foot or step back to the middle. After training myself in DDR to NOT step back to the middle, I had to retrain myself to do so on this game. Once I figured that out, I got 9's and 10's right away, had no problem unlocking the other dancers, and with the extra step in the middle, I'm getting more exercise from it.
I agree with the other reviewer that the load time for the judging is very long. You can skip the judging altogether in the "practice" mode, but you can only practice songs you've unlocked, and you can only unlock songs in the regular mode. Overall, I like the game. I like DDR better.

I was introduced to this game on New Years Eve and fell in love with it.The screen shows you how to move your feet and you just follow along. If you are an adult, who has trouble with Dance Dance Revolution, then this is the game for you. It can give you a pretty good workout, so I use it as a form of aerobic exercise. I highly recommend it!

I have a blast playing this game. It's tons of fun and it's really neat to have the judges from the show give me my feedback and scores. I play with a dancepad, and my friend and I can't wait to get another dance pad so we can play it at the same time. We have so much fun and we get a great workout, too! We love it!

Dance mat not compatable with other games,

I recently got this game bundle and a DDR game. I figured if I ordered it with the mat I'd be all set to play either. I did not realize the mat was not compatable with the DDR games so I am going to have to get a mat for the DDR game I got. I have just started trying this game out so my thoughts on it may change but for now I like it. It is fairly easy to follow and I enjoy the music and graphics. (my toddler likes to give me an extra challenge by "helping' me LOL but I wish the mats were compatable.

You'll spend more time waiting than dancing,

I'm a veteran DDR player--I play it every morning for exercise--and I thought I might enjoy something different. Unfortunately, Dancing with the Stars is not it. Due to extremely long load times (before the song, and before the judges critique Player 1's performance, and AGAIN before the judges critique Player 2's performance...), non-skippable animations, and tons of unnecessary "press Start"/"press X"/"overwrite save" prompts, I'd spend more time waiting than dancing--totally unacceptable for an aerobic workout.
If you have an HDTV and/or audio receiver, be warned that this game has no lag calibration options whatsoever. This game says Progressive Scan on the box, which, if it were true, would mitigate HDTV lag--but I couldn't find any way to enable this (it's not mentioned in the manual, there's no menu option for it, and pressing triangle and X during load doesn't do it). Also, the game is not quite compatible with Konami DDR dance mats (the kind bundled with DDR games) - menu navigation requires a triangle button, and Konami mats don't have that (just X and O). As for the gameplay itself, left/right foot assignments and timed freeze arrow releases are an interesting challenge. Intensity (as in steps per second) is far lower than DDR, but the game is much pickier than DDR about step timing. I like the score multiplier that builds up after several consecutive steps hit. If the load times weren't so atrocious, I might actually enjoy this game.

This game is really fun, and the graphics are cool! I have never done DDR regular, but I have done the disney version, and I like this better!!!!
The dances are fun, and it gives you a workout to. It's also neat how you can get the judge's scores. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the load times are a bit much. But I am still happy with this game!

If you're looking for the DDR experience, I wouldn't recommend this game. The arrows in this game isn't like the one in the original DDR games (the ones where the arrows move upwards and there are the 4 directional arrows set on top of the screen). In this game, it shows you the picture of what directional arrows you have to step on. Overall, it's just not the same as playing the other "real" DDR video games.
