This album is one of the last roy did of the three lps he did for alligator records.
Big D
He is the rare player who has it all-technical brilliance, playing with great emotion and feel, understanding what the song needs or does not need, yet not overplaying.
DL
Even if you just play for fun, and you enjoy it--don't off yourself because you might not have a guitar over there!!

This release truley capture's the man's playing and influences. Peter Gunn smokes as does Jungle Gym,Pedal to the Metal and You can't Judge A Book.Cream of the Crop is buchanan magic and Drowning On Dry Land---enjoy the crack band too with Donald Kinsey,Larry Exum and co.

Let me start by saying I have become a huge Roy Buchanan fan. The man was a true genius of the instrument, a monster talent to be sure. This was the second album Roy did with Alligator records. I would rate it as highly as the other two as I feel those 2 were very good as well. The material is not always first rate but the guitar work is stellar throughout. By now Roy was playing mostly a Les Paul instead of his famous Telecaster, but the results are no less astounding. Standout tracks include: Peter Gunn,The Chokin' Kind,Drowning On Dry Land,Petal To The Metal and Whiplash.

Roy has the ability to take any song and make it so much better. He is the rare player who has it all-technical brilliance, playing with great emotion and feel, understanding what the song needs or does not need, yet not overplaying. He never played a solo the same way twice. That Roy could pull off so many harmonics with really no pedals/effects was unreal. He stands among a select few who has shown what the electric guitar is capable of. The more you listen to his music the more you get the sense the man could do damn near any thing he wanted with the guitar. Like I said,a monster talent who is still mostly unknown.

About a year ago, I saw an offer to get Roy Buchanan's Live Stock for 5 bucks. I thought, " Why not?" and got it. Wow! What a find! Now this one came along and it was a no-brainer! I would definitely put Roy in the same category as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher. Everybody knows who Stevie Ray Vaughan was. Not every person has heard of the other three, but they are all equally good. They are also all gone... They are still living inside of the many young guitarists that they inspired, such as Joey Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Sheppard. If you like the blues, or just guitar legends, you owe it to yourself to get this, as well as some of the offerings from the other names I mentioned. Enjoy!
