Review

Sun Bear The Medicine Wheel Is a Springboard of Power that Will Allow You to Link Up with All the Energies of the Universe.

Tom Brown, Jr. Director, The Tracker School, author of The Tracker, The Search, and The Field Guide to Wilderness Survival I sincerely believe that if more people would come into the circle of Sun Bear's vision it would be the saving of the world. I give him, his vision, and his books my fullest support.

Dr. Elisabeth KÜebler-Ross author of On Death and Dying Sun Bear is a proud example for the generations to come.

Page Bryant author of The Earth Changes Survival Handbook During these times of great change, Sun Bear's vision seems particularly appropriate.

About the Author

Sun Bear, a sacred teacher of Chippewa descent, is the founder and medicine chief of the Bear Tribe, a multiracial educational society. He is a world-renowned lecturer and teacher and the author or coauthor of eight books. He is publisher of the magazine Wildfire and founder of the World Earth Fund.

More About the Author

Marlise Wabun Wind, M.S., is the author of eleven nonfiction books, with over two million copies in print worldwide in many languages. She has written about allopathic and complementary medicine, living in harmony with the earth, visionary people and experiences, community, and the environment. In the course of her career, Marlise has directed two non-profit educational organizations, founded a small publishing company, edited a magazine, and worked as both a literary agent and a publishing consultant. She spent close to twenty years in the western United States, living and working with indigenous people from a variety of traditions. She has lectured at schools, conferences, and retreat centers, both in the United States and in Europe, about her experiences.

Marlise holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in international communications from George Washington University. She is a lifelong student of multicultural approaches to healing, issues concerning women and children, relationships, and comparative religions in their historical perspectives. She helped to establish and run a farm/conference center, and in doing so, learned about gardening, herbology, and other earth-oriented topics. She also helped develop curricula for the conference center and acted as both a teacher and ceremonial leader.

While searching for an alternative to the surgical treatments for an arthritic ankle, Marlise was referred to Dr. Brian Shiple, from whom she learned about regenerative injection treatment (RIT) and underwent successful treatment. Her positive experience led her to collaborate with Dr. Shiple on Regenerative Healing For Life. She is now an advocate for RIT and related non-invasive techniques and complementary treatments.

Marlise is currently working on several other projects, including a novel and a second spiritual adventure memoir. She and her husband, a psychiatrist, have an adult daughter who is an artist.

This book provides the information needed to get a good understanding of the medicine wheel. Don't read it as a technical manual. Consider it to be your guide on your journey to yourself. It will give you clear info when you're ready for your next step. It is very nicely illustrated and very readable. It enables you to find info on animals, plants and minerals. It is a real workbook that can be used over and over and which doesn't lose its value over time. If you would only buy one book on this subject, this should be it!

This is my first book on medicine wheels and ceremonies. I first became interested when my family and I went to Sedona for Christmas a few years ago and spent the day with a woman who took us on a hike and did a drumming ceremony and visulaization. This book has excellent info that has not only helped me understand more of the background and meaning of the different ceremonies and symbolism but also the grounding to do them myself.
The first chapter (I love the title) is called "The Dance Begins." It steps through things like what a medicine wheel looks like, what it represents and how to make one. Then there is a section on "hearing the earth's song" - this is almost a meditation of sitting quietly and listening to your own heart beat and that of the earth. Then there are pages on the different clans (I especially love the Butterfly Clan). Ceremonies like smudging are described as well as centering through use of drums & rattles. There are chants to sing, discussion of the different pathways, using the medicine wheel for healing, using stones/minerals, totem animals. Plants are also discussed. Oversll quite a comprehensive book - one that can keep you busy for quite a long time because its so full of information and activities.

This book teaches us the how to communicate in a deeper and more personal way with ourselvs and the earth. It teaches us healing ceremonies and songs, it teaches us how to build our own wheels with the help of plants and stones and colors, with wonderful illustrations and instructions to guide us every step of the way. It will teach you how to see the spirit inside each living thing from the single stone on a trail to the mighty hawk high above us. I believe with the help of this book we as brothers and sisters can finially begin to heal our earth.

As with anything I have read by Sun Bear, I come away from this read with more insight than when I started. Explanations, exercises, & a brief history, help to expand my understanding of the Journey. Sun Bear does not take for granted that we know the reasoning or traditions behind ceremony, & takes the time to explain. I am grateful for the knowledge gained from this book, & I feel the bond between Great Spirit & myself has been strenghtened. Thank you.

I bought this book based on the recommendation of a friend. This book is an excellent work book and walks you through every aspect of the Wheel. It is very useful for both practical use and for general knowledge.

This book is a total immersion into the world of the Medicine Wheel. It is NOT filled with 100 pages of fluff, it is full of facts about the Medicine Wheel. The myriad ways in which a Medicine Wheel can be utilized: colors, crystals, animal totems, moon cycles, spirit path, each individual 36 positions, or stones... There are so many ceremonies it would take a year just to perform them all once. And who would want to do that? This book is a GIFT of knowledge from an amazing man who had an amazing Teacher. I have Cherokee DNA in my body. My cells vibrate with excitement and anticipation as I prepare to create my own Medicine Wheel, making it ready for the Spring Equinox. All my relations, Ho! All my words are sacred. I am Virginia, Spirit Healer

We have used this book for ceremonies ever since 1995 when we lived in Florida and participated every month in medicine wheel gatherings. It has been a foundation to forming other circles and monthly gatherings.
I had the great opportunity to meet Sun Bear many years ago at a gathering. This series of books holds his truth.
