Book Description

Lily Brookstone, the daughter of a workaholic United States Senator, defies her father's wishes by moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of a dancing career. But the tough town hasn't been easy on her, and after two years she finds herself disowned by her father, dropped by her agent, recovering from a dance injury, and working three jobs to make ends meet. Oh, and she's somehow picked up a stalker.  Yeah, Los Angeles has not been kind.

Then she meets Marc, an LAPD officer with an uncanny knack for reading people. Can she overcome her untrusting nature and allow him to protect both her life and her heart?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

HEAT LEVEL ALERT: Be forewarned, this is a steamy romance!
For readers who are curious about the "heat level" of this book, I like to gauge my novels using the following sexual intimacy scale: 1 - Chaste (no sexual intimacy beyond a kiss on the hand or the cheek); 2 - Sweet (there may be sexual attraction and kissing, but no overt sexual interaction); 3 - Hot (there is overt sexual attraction, kissing, making out/fondling, but sex, if any, is either not described in detail or only alluded to); 4 - Steamy (there is potent sexual attraction and sexual interactions are described in detail); 5 - Scorching (sexual interactions are frequent and described in detail, may include fetish/taboo sexual scenarios); and 6 - Erotica (the central focus of erotic romances are the sexual interactions. Sexual interactions are very frequent, described in high detail, and may include any type of sexual scenario, including fetish/taboo scenarios).
Using this scale, I would rate DANCING WITH DANGER as 4 - Steamy.  Happy reading!

To My Readers:

I find few things in life to be as passionate as a beautifully-crafted dance. Dance can inspire every imaginable human emotion, from impressed awe to sensual titillation, from breathtaking fear to overwhelming joy. In my opinion, true love is its only equal. In "Dancing with Danger," I tell the story of Lily, a professional dancer who only knows passion through dance. Her workaholic father taught her all about hard work and being independent, but nothing about love. It isn't until she meets Marc, a tough LAPD cop, that she discovers the full depths of her passion and capacity to love. I have always been a sucker for a protective, alpha male hero with a heart of gold... and boy-oh-boy, does Marc deliver. His charming personality could make any woman swoon, and his strong arms would be right there to catch her before she fell. I wanted to explore their journey to true love. Could Lily learn to place her trust and her heart in another's hands? Marc might be able to protect Lily from dangerous threats, but is he willing to risk his own heart in the process?

About the Author

Laura Sheehan grew up in Las Vegas and has been dancing since she was ten years old. Her ballet mistress was an honest-to-goodness Las Vegas showgirl! She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, a thoroughly-spoiled cat, and a handful of fish who keep her thoroughly-spoiled cat entertained. When not working at her office day job, she can usually be found in a dance studio, on a softball field, writing at her computer, snuggling with her amazing husband, or eating milk chocolate. Sometimes she can be found doing more than one of these at a time, although when doing so she has to be careful not to get chocolate on the computer keyboard (or on the amazing husband... although now that she thinks about it, that might not be such a bad thing).

Laura writes suspense, paranormal, and fantasy romances.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hot and steamy page-turner May 7, 2012

Great characters, a plot that keeps you hanging, and steamy romantic action. I've read a number of romance novels before (although this is the first one I've picked up from Red Sage Publishing), and I'd rate this at least a seven on a one-to-ten sensuality scale. Creatively similar to Beatrice Small, but more in touch with the knock-out punch that hits when once-in-a-lifetime soul mates discover each other. This author clearly knows what she's talking about when it comes to the power of true love; it practically jumps off the pages to pull you inside the story.

I've never been a dancer, so it was an exotic trip for me to see that world from the inside. There are so many different aspects to it! Whether teaching preschoolers at a dance school, auditioning for professional theatre, or making ends meet by erotic pole dancing in a strip club, Lily experiences it all with the vibrant sense of joy that comes from doing what she loves to do: expressing her emotions through dance. Don't we all wish we could transcend the ordinary humdrummed-ness of life and be transported by such passion? But Lily's passion for dancing is just a teaser of what will happen when she meets Marc, the green-eyed, streetwise cop she's destined to fall in love with. I won't describe any more. You gotta read it for yourself.

Please note that you don't need a Kindle to read this book. Amazon has a very nice free application that turns your PC into a Kindle-reader, and it even comes with some complimentary classics when you download it. Once you install it, you can use it to read any of the other Kindle books.

But here's a question for the author: Your biography mentions a handful of fish keeping your thoroughly spoiled cat entertained. I assume that these fish are living in a tank and being viewed as feline entertainment through the glass? Inquiring minds simply MUST know. I'm trying not to picture a handful of fish inside the belly of a cat, like the drawing of an elephant inside a boa from "The Little Prince." Please set my mind at ease. Be there glass? Would the ASPCA approve?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Read May 10, 2012

I read this book in two sittings. The antagonist was written so well I was afraid to keep reading it at night (you know, that fear of things that go bump in the night) so I had relegated the book to daytime reading only. It was an excellent read with good pacing, believability, great characters, and very hard to put down. Having spent twenty five years living in Los Angeles, I enjoyed reading about familiar places, and also the underbelly of spots like Vixens, which I knew existed but had never been into. The dance scenes were fabulous and gave me an insight into the heroine's character, I adored how she expressed herself through dance and yet maintained her core values. The hero was great, as were the secondary characters. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a Dance 4 1/2 /Stars September 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The hero and heroine of this gipping romantic suspense novel have a very unusual first encounter. Marcus "Marc" Sloan is a Hollywood police officer, working the late shift with his fellow officer and best friend Pete. They are called to investigate a possible sighting of a robbery suspect in her getaway car. Lillian Brookstone "Lilly" is just trying to get home from her night job. The officers quickly realize their error, and are called away to another sighting. Lilly is left to go home.

Lilly is a professional dancer, recovering from a serious injury . She lost her agent, and several thousand dollars for her medical bills and now works three jobs to try and pay her debts. Lilly is a dance teacher to children, and works shifts in a coffee shop with her best friend Judy by day. At night she transforms to the mysterious Ms. M in a club called Vixens, where she dances topless, but always with a mask.
Marc and Lilly have a chance encounter in the coffee shop, and the spark between them comes to life. She desperately wants to keep her night life a secret, but fate intervenes. Marc is at a bachelor party for Pete at Vixens, and suddenly senses a strong pull of attraction while watching the hypnotic dancing of Ms. M. Their attraction quickly turns to passion, but fate again rears its ugly head. Lilly's car is vandalized, and they both realize a sickening truth....she has a stalker with deadly intentions.

Marc is a hot sexy lover and protector. Lilly, so used to having to be alone, reluctantly lets Marc in. The suspense continues to build. I held my breath in spots, laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced adventure. The love scenes are just that, love scenes, with some great heat!
Highly recommend this exciting story!
