The purpose of this review is sharing some practical usage and storage tips with the "newbies" so you don't accidentally waste and have to throw away your supply.
There are smaller packages of Dandy blend available even here on Amazon, however economically this size makes best practical sense, as it's the least expensive (price per oz) option, provided you will store it right.
The instruction on the label say that Dandelion is sensitive to moisture and the bag needs to be resealed completely after each use. However I found out that itself is not enough (I live in area with high humidity).
From my experience, the best thing to do if you buy this size is to either share it with a friend and/or do the following: I put mine in a small size glass mason jar with a lid and store it in the fridge (or even freezer, either way).
What is left, stays in the original bag, gets sealed, put in additional Ziploc bag and stored in the freezer. There it will last quite a long time.
What happens if you leave it at room temperature is, it absorbs moisture and hardens into a block pretty quickly, and you have to literally chisel it to break a piece off, plus it dissolves lot harder and loses some original flavor, so it pretty much gets ruined. I found out the hard way and had to throw away quite a sizable amount the first time I bought it.
Cold temperature will keep it nice, powdery and fresh for a long time.Read more ›
The price fluctuates, so it makes sense to do a bit of comparison shopping. I bought this packaging when it was about $10, which made it worth it. If you want to save some $$, you can buy bigger package and share with a friend, or just store it in the freezer - it will last quite a long time.
I have been drinking this for years, and as just about everyone else, really love it and recommend it. It has a very pleasant taste, dandelion is 'good for you' and you can use it as a delicious beverage or as an coffee substitute, if you wish. I usually add some stevia to mine, sometimes a little bit of half and half, could use rice or almond milk, some raw cacao powder, cinnamon, whatever sweeteners, "whiteners" or other enhancements you would put in the coffee and your imagination comes up with.
The amount to use will depend on your preferences. Some people like theirs little less concentrated, I prefer mine strong, so I use quite a bit. You can just play with it until you find your optimal powder-to-water ratio.
Also, from my experience, it is a good idea to keep your supply in the fridge or the freezer, as it does absorb moisture and if kept at room temperature, it very quickly hardens into a block and you have to chisel it if you want it to dissolve. Plus it loses the flavor, so it pretty much gets ruined.
I had to throw away sizable amount before I learned this, so what I started doing was putting whatever amount fits in a small glass mason jar with a plastic lid and keeping that in the fridge. Whatever is left, stays in the original bag, gets put into a Ziploc bag and goes into freezer.
Hope that helps and if you are sitting on the fence and want to just give it a try, definitely go with this size, I am sure you won't regret it!!
The first thing you must do when trying any coffee substitute is to set your expectations. The reviews I read said these products tasted like coffee. They do not taste like any coffee I have ever had. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you are expecting a coffee-like taste when you try one of these, you will be disappointed. That was my experience. I drank my coffee black, and so that is how I prepared these. Perhaps with sweetener and/or creamer these do taste more like coffee.
I ordered all three products from Amazon.com, and the first to arrive was Cafix. Thinking it was like coffee, I used a level teaspoon just like I would with instant coffee. It tasted like really weak coffee. I tried adding more to make it stronger, but it still did not taste like coffee, and I was disappointed. I finished the drink and put my cup in the
After I thought about it for a while, I realized what I really wanted was a beverage I could drink throughout the day like I did coffee. Whether or not it tasted like coffee was not important. It's not that Cafix tasted bad, it wasn't what I was expecting. So I made myself another cup, and when I finished that one I made a third. By the end of the day I decided that Cafix wasn't so bad after all, I actually enjoyed it.Read more ›
