3.0 out of 5 stars Slower than Sandisk Flash Drive
I got the 8gb for the space, but I found that it is pretty slow. Compared to my Sandisk Cruzer, the Dane-Elec is really slow. If you are looking for a lot of space for a little money this is totally worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Files Corrupted, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Dane-Elec zMate Pen USB2.0 Nacre - USB flash drive - 8 GB - Hi-Speed USB (Electronics)

I have this flash drive. It has a cool look, feel and the key ring attachment is strong. It was inexpensive and eight gigs. What could be better?

Then slowly but surely files became unopenable and corrupted. At first I thought... I don't know what I thought. But I didn't blame it on the flash drive. More files gone. Brought it to work. More files gone. I'm pretty good at backing things up, so I'll live. But this is definitely not a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Flash Drive!, March 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dane-Elec zMate Pen USB2.0 Nacre - USB flash drive - 8 GB - Hi-Speed USB (Electronics)
So far this drive has performed great - while not specifically stated to be "water resistant" - it has managed to make it through the washer and drier one time and not missed a beat! Only down side is that this design type has a risk of loosing the cap. (I have an older 1GB one just like this one and it has been washed 3-4 times and the cap has been gone for a year but it keeps on working) Its durability is why I decided to get the 8GB one. Overall I am quite happy with this drive.

Physical attributes= the ring for attaching this to a keyring is very small, and while I haven't had an issue with it yet, I wouldn't carry this drive on a keychain that sees a lot of abuse. The cover of the drive feels pretty cheap and entirely detaches from the drive, so don't lose it! It is also a very loose attachment when connected to the drive, and it feels like it could slip off accidentally. Other than that the drive feels pretty solid, durable, and I never feel like it's going to break while handling it.

Function= The read speed is average. I use my drive for home computing and storage, and it isn't my fastest drive, but it's fast enough for me. I have not had a problem with any lost data in the few months I've used mine. Functions as new even after hundreds of uses.

Overall= I got this for $10.00 on sale, which is the cheapest I've ever seen an 8gb drive. I have had no problems with it so far, and would suggest this for any home computer use. I would not recommend this to someone looking for a drive for carrying around town, although your mileage may vary! Bottom line is: this is worth the price!

here's two different type of these, one that ships from Philadelphia warehouse and has a blue L.E.D(most are from this kind)it doesn't support 480mbps,it's not too slow,it's just like Kingston or any other flash drive, the other one ships from California warehouse and has a amber L.E.D,it's superb!it supports 480mbps and I haven't seen that fast flash drive! But be aware if you buy that for Data protection via password,it's for another flash drive from same brand calls (jelly),this one doesn't have that feature. finally,I don't think any body like to waste hard earned money for Chinese crap! This one is made right here in CA.
