Dane: Lords of Satyr by Elizabeth AmberParanormal Romance - May 25th, 2010 4 1/2 stars Dane is the fabulous return to the Lords of the Satyr series. Elizabeth Amber has brought new depth to her characters and fascinating new twists that will keep fans of the Satyrs spellbound and convert new readers to her series. This series has been characterized by: strong, charismatic, and enigmatic Satyr men with insatiable 'appetites,' extremely sensual scenes and a decadent world of magic. All of which have thrilled me from her very first book, Nicholas. I felt this book was a real departure from the series in that I felt so emotionally connected to both the main characters. What makes the latest installment of the Lord of the Satyrs intriguing is that Dane is no 'normal' Satyr. Dane is one of Nicholas's sons. He is super sexy and powerful but Dane was kidnapped at a young age. When he was taken he was abused and although he escaped he was unable to rescue his younger brother. Dane has coped by developing different personalities to deal with the pain and most of his memories were repressed. Dane is also tormented by the fact he could not save his brother who is still lost and being tortured. Unlike his brothers and other Satyrs Dane does not revel in his sexuality. In fact, the only way he can have sex during the pull of the moon is when his alter ego Dante takes over his body so he can forget. But Dane discovers a surprising and enjoyable change when he finds an attractive interloper on his grounds. There is something different about Eva. She attracts him and for the first time he notices he actually has sexual cravings that do not repulse him and he can remember her! Dane is determined to make her his 'own.' But Eva has secrets of her own. And pursuing Eva means stripping away both their secrets one by one. Eva is a one of a kind female Satyr and if she were discovered she would be enslaved. Desperate to hide her identity she uses a secret olive potion that prevents her from being detected. However, the olives only reside on the Lord of the Satyr's olive grove. Using a map Eva finds herself becoming lost and the enjoying the unwanted attentions of a Satyr named Dante on the full moon. Knowing full well she cannot be discovered she struggles for release before he can detect her real identity. Unfortunately, her forbidden attraction to Dane are a complication she doesn't need. There were 2 things about this story that I simply loved. One was the way Elizabeth Amber cleverly has Dane's different personalities. The reasons behind them and the insecurities and vulnerability behind them made for an engrossing read. Usually the Lords of the Satyrs are so self-confident and sometimes even distant/strong I don't feel as connected to them as the female characters. I enjoyed Dane's journey as he finally realizes his full potential. I also loved that Eva is the first female Satyr, it made her more on equal footing than any other of the previous mates of the Satyrs since I felt she could match them sexually. (I really hope the author has more female Satyrs!) I also liked that Eva could call her own male Shimmerskins! She conjures one who looks like Dane to pleasure her. Oh yeah! (For those new to the series at the full moon the Satyrs have uncontrollable sexual urges and often call magical Shimmerskins to help release their sexual tension.) Wouldn't that be nice in real life! This is a fabulous continuation to a series that is remarkable in its imagination and feel of old world decadence. I enjoyed it from the first page and didn't want to let go of the last. The only aspect I found might be difficult for first time readers is that because this is the 5th book in the series the author assumes that you have some knowledge of the Lords of the Satyrs and the history with their enemies. Although it isn't too difficult to figure out it may be a little hard for a new reader to orient themselves initially. Not since her first novel Nicholas have I been so 'wowed.' If you love this series you will enjoy this book as it brings a new emotional depth to the Satyrs that I found fascinating, I'm so glad Dane has more brothers to read about. (I specifically would like to know about Dane's kidnapped brother-Hint!) Fresh and always original I am enthralled and bedazzled by this vibrant and sexy paranormal series. I think this might be my favorite of the Satyr Lords yet. The story was filled with secrets, mystery and romance. I could feel the chemistry between Eva and Dane through the whole story.I liked Eva. She was strong, confident and well centered. A genuinely good person. The orphans she took in and her obvious love for them warmed my heart. Dane was traumatized early on, causing the split personalities. Armed with just enough information to understand his plight, I am grateful we as readers were not forced to relive his torment in graphic detail. He didn't wallow in self pity or take it out on others. He used his frustrations to push him forward. He never used it as an excuse not to open his heart to love. He made for a very attractive Alpha Male. If you have read the first trilogy of brothers, this one covers less of the Moonful Calling of the Satyr and delves into other sexual areas as well.

Dane,
This review is from: Dane: Lords of Satyr (Paperback)
A matchmaker and a man looking for a wife, what could go wrong? Plenty when they've kissed before they've been properly introduced. There is more to Eva than meets the eye. She is a Satyr and has to hide her true identity because she is unique. Dane has his own burdens to bear. He hopes that marriage to a human will solve his problems and let him continue to look for his brother. There is something about Eva that draws Dane in. Can he figure out what it is before it's too late? Elizabeth Amber draws you into her magical world with each book and Dane is no exception. The twist and turns are wonderful to discover. Dane kept me on the edge of my seat to find out what happens next. I couldn't stop reading. Eva is so complicated and has a big heart. It is easy to see why Dane falls for her. Dane is so hard on himself and so loyal. He's just what Eva needs. The ending was perfect and made me very happy. I can't wait for the next Satyr book. Jambrea Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Intriguing, emotional, and erotic,
This review is from: Dane: Lords of Satyr (Paperback)
The continuation of the Lords of Satyr series begins years after and in a different environment of all of the others stories. Dane has just returned from ElseWorld to join his brothers in nineteenth century Rome. Having been given the task from the ElseWorld Council of finding a wife and producing children, he searches out Eva, a matchmaker. He did not realize that he would be more interested in the matchmaker than the women she was matching him with.Eva had a secret: she is the only living woman satyr. Fortunately, she disguises herself as simply fey to run her matchmaking services. When the satyr Dane arrives in her house, she immediately wants him for herself. She knows that Dane could satisfy her needs. But, she continues to play matchmaker and attempts to damper her desires for the handsome satyr. While Dane and Eva fight their attraction, others are vying for Dane and Eva's attention and resorting to blackmail. Can the two of them come to agreement concerning their attraction? Can they thwart the plans of the bad guys? I found it difficult to write a summary of this book because there is so much happening in this book! At first, I found the story slow, but this seemingly slow setup is necessary for the rest of the book to fly by with erotic scenes, drama, and intrigue. Eva and Dane are incredibly hot! Separately, both characters have interesting pasts that directly influence their actions. I enjoyed how the story slowly peeled away aspects of Dane and Eva and how that fit into the complex storyline of this book. I desperately wanted to know how Dane and Eva ended up together at the conclusion of their emotional, twist-turning tale. I really enjoyed Dane. The intrigue of the story blended perfectly with the erotic scenes, leaving me supremely happy with the complexity and intensity of this book. Although Dane is part of the Lords of Satyr series, the book will be easy to understand for those new to the series, but fans are guaranteed to love this new installment. The series has definitely been expanded and I look forward to seeing how the world progresses. Give me more! BookingIt Grade: A This review is written for and published by ParaNormal Romance.

This review is from: Dane: Lords of Satyr (Paperback)
Rome, Italy 1880Dane recently acquired his ancestral lands and is determined to return them to their former glory but his primary focus is on locating Luc, his youngest brother, who's been missing for many years. Dane and Luc had been kidnapped together yet when Dane reappeared a year later he has no recollection of what happened to them or where they'd been taken and no clue where his brother might be. Dane's nature as a satyr makes him a very lusty man yet he's never experienced Moonful with a female, there's a being inside him who takes over during such experiences, supposedly for Dante's own protection. As if Dane doesn't have enough to deal with at the moment, the ElseWorld Council insists he take a human wife. Eva has been allowed entrance to Earth once it's determined that she's been afflicted by the Great Sickness and not of any real interest to the Council. She's been given the task of matchmaking for the ElseWorld male who came to Earth and she's extremely good at it but that's not where her true interests lie. She's determined to locate her father, a man she's never met, and earn herself a place in the same society that rejected her mother. The most worrisome issue for Eva though is the possibility of someone discovering who she truly is - there's never been a female like her and if her existence becomes known she'll be in grave danger. When Dane and Eva first meet she's wandering about his land in search of the olives used in the concoction that disguises her scent and aids in controlling the other traits associated with her kind. With Moonful quickly approaching, Dante (Dane's `protector') views Eva as the perfect female to expend his sexual desires for the night. Dane recognizes her as something more important to him than just a sexual being - to him she represents a way out of the hell that his life has become. Dante doesn't completely overtake him when she's present; it's just possible that Eva could be exactly who he needs in his life to stem his inner demons and aid in finding the answers he needs as to what happened to his brother. What he can't figure out is why her scent is so muffled. He doesn't have any doubt that she's from ElseWorld but what exactly is she and how is she able to hide her scent? From the moment they meet the passion between Eva and Dane is overwhelming. Their encounters are scorching yet there's no hope for anything permanent between them. They are expected to marry humans but there's nothing wrong with satisfying their physical desires, after all a human would never understand the full extent of their needs. As complicated as their relationship is there's a danger neither of them anticipates lurking within their midst that could either sever their connection or drive them closer together. Elizabeth Amber breathes life into her stories by `painting' scenes with words so readers can visualize the settings as well as the characters' individual situations. With DANE, Ms. Amber continues her LORDS OF SATYR series with some stunning revelations, memorable characters, and in depth subplots which ensure readers' enjoyment throughout the entire book. The LORDS OF SATYR series delivers a paranormal storyline, set in an historical setting as well as a suspenseful element so you're never quite sure what will happen next. One thing is for certain though; you'll find it impossible to put this book down before it reaches its conclusion and will definitely look forward to the next release. This is one of the most creative, unique sexy historical series around! I was a little afraid the author's energy might wane with Dane, but was very pleasantly surprised. It's tightly written, excellent sexual situations, and I believed Eva and Dane were meant to be together. This book begins the stories of a new set of satyr/human brothers in Rome. Dane and his youngest brother mysteriously disappeared in childhood. Dane reappeared, but his brother didn't. Now in a race against time, Dane is trying to recall what happened during their abduction. His memories are locked inside a multiple personality named Dante. And Dante keeps all sexual encounters for himself, in order to keep Dane from remembering what happened. Eva and Dane meet right away in chapter 1, and the sexual tension between them never slows down. She is the only female satyr ever born, and has to keep this a secret. I LOVED the scene of her in chapter 2 when she's hiding out during the Calling. Really felt her emotions. Can't wait for the other brothers' stories.

Well worth a third or fourth reading!,
This review is from: Dane: Lords of Satyr (Paperback)
Originally Posted at: [...]The last time I visited the world of the Satyrs in Italy, I thought it would be exactly that: the last time. Imagine my delight to learn that Elizabeth Amber had started another set of Satyr books set several years after the first books, but in a different part of Italy. Again, I was pulled into one of Ms. Amber's books until the last page was turned and I kept tapping the next button on my e-reader hoping for just a few more words and a few more hints as to what would happen next. Dane Satyr and Eva Delacorte were absolutely wonderful to get to know. Ms. Amber has a way of painting a picture of her characters that brings them to vivid life. So much so that you feel you are standing next to them speaking to them and learning all about them. Furthermore, the two characters are rather mysterious. At first I wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but as usual with Elizabeth Amber I couldn't put the book down and had to see what all would be revealed. Dane was definitely a tortured hero, not unusual for Ms. Amber, but I wasn't sure at first why he was so tortured. As more was discovered it made more sense. Heck, I felt tortured for him. And yet, all the way through I felt he was incredibly strong of will and mind to have made it through what he did. I seriously wanted him to find who he was looking for and to realize how much he needed a certain woman in his life, not just any woman to appease the ElseWorld Council. I was rooting for him, hoping for him and wishing I could reach into the book and poke him in the right direction. I loved how he made his stand and let the woman who owned his heart help to heal him. Eva was an interesting, and incredibly complex heroine with her own secrets. One of them I knew almost from the start, but there were more to be uncovered that just added layer upon layer to this multifaceted woman. She had great reason for turmoil, but also realized that she has great reason for joy. That was something I adored about her; her capacity to find the joy in those in her life. I did get upset with her a few times. I wanted her to stand up for herself and find her own happiness, not the happiness others felt she needed to seek out. At the same time I realized that you can't just throw years of teachings and indoctrinations out the window, especially if promises were made. When she did step out of her comfort zone to find the one man who could give her everything her heart desired, I cheered and hunkered down for the fireworks. I did have one issue with the book, but it was only one of personal curiosity. Nothing that pulled me from the book, just something that lingered in the back of my mind anytime I had to put the story down to attend to everyday matters. To this moment I'm still unsure who exactly the brothers are. I kept hoping that more light would be shed on their lineage - if they were from parents that we met in previous books or if they were simply a different set of Satyrs. I understood to a point that this book was apparently set fifty years after the first four books, but I wanted to know how they were related or unrelated to the first books. It didn't diminish my enjoyment at all, and doesn't even warrant a deduction in rating, it was simply my insane curiosity rearing its devious head. As was typical of a tale by Ms. Amber, the secondary characters brought a multitude of emotions to the mix. From the requisite evil-doers to the girls Eva has saved, we run the gamut from an oily feeling of evil to the sweet adoration a mother had for her children. I loved Mimi and Lena, and could imagine their mischievous spirits as they bounced through the house, and wanted to protect them when evil came calling. Certain secondary characters upset me more than others. In some the evil and sociopathic behavior was expected, even if it is unfortunate. In others I was given certain hints, yet I still felt surprise when they were unmasked as someone not entirely out for the good of those they professed to love. These characters I almost felt sorry for, but then they would suggest or do something unforgiveable and my sympathy flew out the window. Another example of how this author has mastered the art of storytelling. Ms. Amber is just what I said above - a consummate storyteller. She never shies away from the more difficult subject matter that makes her stories so very unique. She brings forth into the light such things as disassociation, split personalities and sexual slavery of the non-consensual type without alienating the reader. It's not done for titillation, but instead to bring to light things that her characters have to deal with and overcome. The mystery plots were entertaining and intertwined as the reader has more information than the characters, but still didn't know what would happen. And let's not forget the heat and flash of arousal we find in her highly erotic love scenes. The language of the sexual acts is reminiscent of a time long past without seeming like that annoying purple prose sometimes evident in stories set in those time periods. Instead, it drew me in and kept me breathless from one moment to the next. It is obvious Ms. Amber wants to invoke a certain feel of a more romantic time period while still appealing to more modern readers. And she pulls it off beautifully. All told, Dane: Lords of Satyr was another wonderful, fabulous and gorgeous offering by Elizabeth Amber that will go on my keeper shelf. Once again, Elizabeth Amber has left me with a smile on my face as the last page was turned, and I highly anticipate the next two books in the series. I especially can't wait to see how some of my favorite characters are doing.

Dane - Awesome addition to the Lords of Satyr Series,
This review is from: Dane: Lords of Satyr (Paperback)
Dane by Elizabeth Amber*Received book from author When Dane Satyr approaches Eva for her services as a matchmaker, she offers him more than just introductions. Dane has discovered that Eva is a Satyr like himself, full of insatiable passion and dark desires. Their attraction combusts instantaneously, unlocking pleasures that neither can resist repeating...even as Eva seeks out a mortal bride for Dane. Dane Satyr has returned from Elseworld to join his brothers in Rome. He has won their olive grove back in a card game and plans to restore their grove to its former state before it was taken from his family years ago. Dane is one of the best Elseworld trackers and he has left without their permission. The only way they are willing to let him go, is for him to marry a human and produce heirs. He seeks out Eva, an Elseworld marriage broker with secrets of her own. From the beginning Dane and Eva are drawn to each other. Eva is tiring of the shimmer skins during moon full and she longs to have someone take the control from her. Dane retreats within himself during moon full and Dante takes over. Dane has never experienced a true Satyr mating until Eva. Both characters are complex, with their own secrets that are slowly revealed throughout the book. They feel a bond with each other, even though Eva knows that they can never have life together. She continues to find a human bride for him but works out an arrangement for them to be together once a month on moon full. Eva is looking for a human husband and knows he won't be able to satisfy her Satyr needs. What they don't realize is that they both have some powerful enemies that will stop at nothing to get them and the olive grove back. They are pulled into a world of sacrifice and greed that could prove deadly for them. This book has something for everyone, romance, sex, drama and intrigue. The Satyr series has grown since it began with more complex storylines. The characters are deeper with multiple layers with insecurities like everyone else has. Eva is hiding her true nature and Dane is hiding behind his other personalities based on events in his past. I love this series and definitely recommend it to everyone. Dane can be read as a standalone without any confusion but for the full effect, The Lords of Satyr series is best read in order. I give Dane 4 ½ flaming hearts.
