4.0 out of 5 stars Flang-tastic
I've always been impressed by the mini Effects Dano has to offer, but this one is my oldest/favorite. It's not top of the line by any means, but it's got a unique sound that people aren't expecting to come out of it. Easy and fun to experiment with in combination of other Dano pedals, and a DAMN fine bargain. Most Bang for your Buck, I must say. You won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great analog flanger for the price
Danelectro specializes in inexpensive, funky equiptment with a strong sonic stamp. The Hash Browns flanger provides a delicious analog flanging effect. This isn't a clean, transparent flanger like you might get in a pricier pedal from Digitech and it isn't half as versatile as the legendary Electric Mistress. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great analog flanger for the price, May 16, 2005
This review is from: Danelectro DJ-8C Hash Browns Flanger Mini Effects Pedal (Electronics)
But it does what it does - and it does it very well. In fact, I prefer the Hash Browns sound to many more expensive flanging effects in rackmounts.

Unfortunately, an inexpensive price also means that the construction isn't very sturdy. This is a tiny pedal that's safest on a desktop or on your bedroom floor. But I wouldn't want to imagine what would happen if you used this pedal onstage. It's so lightweight that if it weren't secured to a pedalboard, it would lift right off! It's also a royal pain to change the battery on this thing - the entire bottom of the pedal must be removed, which is another accident waiting to happen.

I recommend using the Hash Browns for practice or for recording, especially for desktop/home producers. It's got a great, distinctive sound but I wish the pedal were built sturdier!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of Bang for the Buck!, June 18, 2009

I've owned this pedal, and it is well worth the money. Great swooshing, tubular vibe. And if you take care of your gear like I do, it will last years. Don't believe that crap that because it is made of plastic, it must be garbage. Only the outside is made of a high impact plastic. It has a full metal base. Just as good as the Ibanez, if not better!

4.0 out of 5 stars So, you want a Flanger., January 7, 2008

I was looking for that deep churning that one hears on VH's "and the Cradle will rock". While this one doesn't sweep quite as wild as that, it does flange and has decent sound quality. IMO it sounds much better than the price. One concern that I have is that the unit is very compact and knobs are in harms way when feet are ready to pounce. Care is required here. Physical strength of jacks, switches and knobs do not appear to be nearly as sturdy as Boss, more like the Arion (jacks appear to be pcb mounted.) I would recomend this for someone who wants to try a flanger pedal (or as a backup) and is not inclined to tinker with the circuit as it appears to have few exchangeable components. (There are a couple of chipsets visible but they are very small and I wouldn't imagine being able to remove and replace them without doing PCB damage.) The DJ-8C satisfies my basic flanging needs to cover most tunes and has acceptable sound quality. No complaints for $21.
