5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Learning book for children
My son Jesse received this book from his Grammy & Gramps who had visited Alaska and heard all about Libby Riddles and her team of dogs and Danger. He fell in love with the book and also listens to the tape constantly, he has worn out the tape, knows the songs by heart. He learned so much about Alaska and dog sledding and I feel that he learned more from this book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Danger the Dog Yard Cat
I was disappointed in this book as book rated for ages 9-12. This book is mostly pictures and a paragraph of reading. I was expecting, based on other's reviews, a book with more information on what she experienced running the Iditarod. It was a cute story, not much information, and the reading level is more the 4-7 year range.

My son Jesse received this book from his Grammy & Gramps who had visited Alaska and heard all about Libby Riddles and her team of dogs and Danger. He fell in love with the book and also listens to the tape constantly, he has worn out the tape, knows the songs by heart. He learned so much about Alaska and dog sledding and I feel that he learned more from this book then if it had been a book in school library. The details supplied in the book abaout the work involved with getting a dog team ready for a race is informative. The way the child gets "involved" with the story through the songs helps to make it more "real" for them. Excellent book!

I give this book four stars. It`s great and really funny! I don`t give it five stars because it is too easy for me. It should be for kids ages 4-6. I recommend this book for kids who like cats.

I like the book Danger the Dog Yard Cat. I recommend this book to you because it tells you about a cat that raced in the Iditarod. The pictures are funny. This book is half true and half make believe. This book is about a cat that gets saved by a dog sled racer that has a lot of dogs. The Cat has to race for the dog leader because he hurt his paw. Danger had one friend that was a dog, and his name was Mud shark.

Side Note: I love this book so much that I am using it as part of one of my College reports!

Danger the Dog Yard Cat was one of the best books I've ever read because it's funny with a very catchy ending. Shelley Gill is funny and cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alaskan/Yukon Childhood Literary Gold, February 22, 2011
This review is from: Danger: The Dog Yard Cat (PAWS IV) (Paperback)
This is a book that's always been in my family's little log cabin in the Yukon. Growing up in South East Alaska we would take the ferry up to Skagway and drive the rest of the way to Tagish, getting more and more isolated by epic wilderness and the harsh winter climate. We had no electricity or running water, and Danger: The Dog Yard Cat was one of the books my parents only kept as Yukon entertainment for me; and it remained a delight of mine throughout my childhood. It still warms my heart because being a very visual reader; the illustrations are practically ingrained into my skull to this point. I recommend this book for anyone raising kids in the far North West, because it will open children's consciousness to the fact that many people (and animals) take pride in living in such harsh but thrilling environments. It also instills the importance and rewards of responsible pet ownership-dog breeding/training/mushing AND pet adoptions. Not to mention the fact that Libby Riddles is a role model to all young girls; as a trainer and musher she shows the importance of self reliance, and her Iditarod legacy highlights the historical as well as social significance of women achieving feats of sport and endurance only previously won by men.
