Most Helpful Customer Reviews

This is a very good and well-written book, which can be read by psychologists and lay-people alike. Spiced with humour, I found it hard to put down and full of insights, both of a personal and academic nature. It answers a number of otherwise puzzling questions about human behaviour, such as why on earth would someone want to put concrete blocks on railway lines or swim with sharks. I am only sorry that I had not read more of Dr Apter's work earlier, since it deserves a much deeper consideration within psychology. It should be essential reading for politicians, teachers, police and social workers.
Frederick Toates, Emeritus Professor of Biological Psychology, The Open University.
