Editorial Reviews

Review

"Danger Road rips the curtain off a high profile murder case that has the highest stakes possible: life or death. Then it takes you into the bowels of the justice system and on this journey you go from the darkest, coldest heart to the crowning glory of the human condition. Danger Road is a searing and scintillating gawk at the truth about our legal system and ourselves." --Howard Finkelstein, trial lawyer

"John Contini has written a fascinating true crime book of one of the most high profile murder cases in Broward County history. In addition, he has managed to superbly display the psychology behind the tense moments in the courtroom with his frank disclosure of his own insightful self-talk during that time. It is as honest as it gets and I was not able to put the book down.. and I already knew the ending!" --Michael Brannon, forensic psychologist

"John's work goes beyond just being another true crime book: It is a riveting morality treatise affording extraordinary insight into a homicide's rippling effects not only on the immediate participants but also on all who are touched by the ongoing waves of its horror - yet revealing hope that a measure of good can spring out of even the machinations of evil. " --Brian Cavanagh, Chief of Homicide, Broward State Attorney's Office

The real story can only come out from someone who was embedded in the case from the beginning.

It's also brilliant how he creates comic-relief throughout the story too, making it very entertaining.

Not finished reading it yet, but the author is very arrogant and obviously an anti-prosecution zealot. He shows great pity for the defendent and makes him appear as a god-like figure. He has no sympathy for the murder victims' families. If you like stories about how hard it is for criminals to get a fair shake and a story that shows contempt for our criminal justice system as well as prosecutors and judges, then you might like it. I don't.

One you start reading Danger Road, you won't be able to stop. This book chronicles a real life tragedy, the legal aftermath of the murder of three drug dealers. If you have ever wanted to know what the REAL legal justice system is all about, this book is for you. You don't need to be a legal expert to understand what is going on in the courtroom. The author was the defense attorney in this case who explains what is happening, why it is happening, and the real world impact these proceedings have on the people's lives who were affected in this case. What I found most intriguing was the way we get to know what the attorney was thinking as the trial evolved. This is a must read for anyone who wants to know the truth about the American criminal justice system. Turn off your cell phone; you won't be able to put this book down.

I'm not a big fan of defense lawyers but John Contini is an exception. His story is a story of his failings as much as the failings of the man he defended. Both are an excellent display of God's forgiveness and redemtion in the heart of man.

I couldn't help liking both the attorney & the defendant. I don't like most attorneys, but I felt that John Contini was upfront about his own personal shortcomings. I really wanted to see proof that Gil was innocent. It all seemed so political and setup for the state to get the result that they wanted. It sure made me think about what I would do if I was certain that the defendant was guilty and if I would feel that the end justifies the means. The question is just as difficult as to whether Gil should confess if he is guilty since he is now a Christian. It all makes for a great story and provokes us to do our own soul searching about our sins and how we handle them. I am always so thankful that our relationship with God is a personal one and that we need to answer to Him. I don't always know what God's plan is, but I do know that when He wants me to do something He lets me know. I feel very sad that Gil's relationship with his one son is strained & the other non-existent. It seems like he would have so much to offer his children. I wasn't familiar with this story before reading it, so I found it very interesting. I'm sure that many will have different perspectives than mine, but there is a lot to think about here and I recommend the challenge.

Did he or didn't he? This true life "John Grisham" tale about an Wi-Fi on trial for murder is very good! I could not wait to turn the page and find out what happened next. The trial was every bit as compelling as the crime. Regardless of the outcome, Mr Fernandez has positively impacted so many others. Get this book! True Crime or court room drama junkies will love it

This book kept me reading and not wanting to put the book down! While you have a good idea on the outcome, there are still a few surprises. And, quite a bit of sarcastic humor during the trial which will five you a hearty laugh. Mainly the comments from John C, the author. A must read if you e joy true crime stories
