dangerous, demons, and a dog,

This review is from: The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers (Mass Market Paperback)
I was a big fan of the first book, now with this second installment we check in as Lizzie fights her first big battle after choosing to be a demon slayer (well- choosing to keep her powers, that is). All the supporting cast is here and humor pops up occasionally, though a bit less than in 1st book.
She's in Vegas, with a permit (not license) for being a demon slayer... and she needs all the help she can get since succubi are showing up in huge numbers - and her boyfriend Dimitri can not take them on... eeps! I loved what Angie Fox did with the direction of this novel. A little darker, a little more solo path for our heroine, and a little more problems and pain... but Lizzie needed that. She grew, learned, and accepted so much and I was 100% satisfied by the ending. There is, like the first book that feeling that while maybe not perfect, things are going to work out for the good guy (Lizzie the slayer) and that helped me get through the more "oh my gosh! it's all going to hell - literally" moments. Every page had me glued, and Angie Fox is a must read author for me now. I hope we have many more stories of Lizzie & crew in future...

demonically good!,

Lizzie Brown's life was normal up until she turned thirty years old and then she learned that she possesses demon destroying powers. Oh sure, becoming a demon slayer is quite a stretch from being a preschool teacher, but Lizzie is up for the challenge. There's just the little issue of her having no clue what she's doing and demon slaying doesn't come with a manual.
Lizzie has a terrific support system in her Harley-riding granny and her biker gang, her griffin boyfriend Dimitri and her feisty Jack Russell terrier Pirate. However, when it comes to her abilities and the rules governing witchcraft she's on her own - as she quickly discovers. It seems that before you're allowed to slay demons you're supposed to possess a license. Lizzie is completely unaware of this little issue until she catches granny trying to feed her acquired tickets into a garbage disposal. How is she supposed to pass some licensing test when no one's taught her anything - and as luck would have it, granny believes in `on-the-job training?' It's imperative that Lizzie travel to Las Vegas to save her uncle from the soul sucking succubi who are taking it over but first she has to obtain a license. Unfortunately without any real knowledge of everything being a demon slayer entails passing the test is impossible. She's manages to get a permit though and as long as granny's present can go about her demon slaying activities. The whole situation becomes more complicated when Dimitri decides to venture to Las Vegas ahead of everyone else to handle the succubi problem himself. This is a battle he can't win alone and that fact creates its own complications. Lizzie feels like she's on a treadmill going nowhere and answers to her questions aren't forthcoming. She can't possibly be the only demon slayer who's found herself in this sort of position. There may not have been a manual for her to follow but there will be by the time she's done. THE DANGEROUS BOOK FOR DEMON SLAYERS is the eagerly anticipated sequel to THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER. Readers get the opportunity to revisit all the characters you know and love already and join in on their hysterical romp through Sin City. There's no way you won't be utterly charmed by this quirky cast of characters and quickly become caught up in Lizzie's antics as she is thrown head-long into demon slaying. Even if you haven't read the first book in this series I think you'll still get a real charge out of THE DANGEROUS BOOK FOR DEMON SLAYERS. Angie Fox charms readers with her uniquely humorous storyline and outrageous characters that steal their way into readers' hearts. I have to confess I'm anxious to delve into more of Ms. Fox's storylines in the near future - they're demonically good Chrissy Dionne (courtesy of Romance Junkies)

Great fun!,

My thoughts...Book 2 of Angie Fox's Demon Slaying series takes readers on a magical tour of Sin City. This time she is up against a Succubus who has stolen her Fairy Godfather. All of my favorite characters were there including The Biker Witch gang, Dimitri and little Pirate. I saw a different side of Dimitri in this book, he was very vulnerable. Lizzy definitely grew into her black slayer books and her powers.
The plot was fun, and it taught the readers more about the mysteries of Fox's magical world. I enjoyed meeting several new paranormal creatures. The new setting in this book left the story wide open for some crazy adventures. The story flowed nicely and it was an easy, fun read. This book was full of excitement, but like the first one it had a dark side too. I was actually scared in some parts of the story. The cons...Hmmm, one of my favorite parts of these stories is the Biker Witch Gang and their antics. They didn't start flinging spell jars until the end of the book, I missed them. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this second book in the Accidental Slayer series. I can't wait to jump right into the next book in the series.

Prepare yourself for one crazy ride,

This review is from: The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers (Mass Market Paperback)
Lizzie is back in this sequel and it seems she has chosen to embrace her calling and truly become a full-time demon slayer. As the story commences, Lizzie is in quite a bind - firstly, she is fined by the DIP (Department of Intramagical Procedures) for all the ruckus that the first book entailed (The Accidental Demon Slayer). And secondly, she is informed that her uncle has "shacked up" with none other than a demon in Las Vegas. On a permit (no license - since she failed her demon-slaying test at the DIP) she makes her way to Vegas with her tatooed-biker witch grandmother and her Red Skulls biker coven as well as her shape-shifting griffin boyfriend Dimitri with no idea that Sin City was being taken over by soul-stealing succubi.
Although I never actually read Ms. Fox's first book, The Accidental Demon Slayer, her second book The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, was very entertaining. It was a hoot actually! Her main character Lizzie - is very funny and witty and I absolutely loved her. The eccentric biker witch grandma and her cronies were downright hilarious. Lizzie's talking dog, Pirate, and the scorching hot griffin boyfriend were the icing on the cake. This was such a fun read - with wacky characters that abound, a fun plot line and lots of action where you don't realize just how quickly the pages are turning. It's a different take from the paranormal books I'm used to reading - but it definitely caught my attention. This is one crazy ride you won't to miss out on.

This was a pretty good book. I've recently gotten into PR & UF books and I'm finding that I'm liking them.
The story is about Lizzie Brown, who recently found out she was a demon slayer. Lizzie has to travel to Vegas to stop a succubus with plans to unleash Armageddon on earth. Along to help her is a coven of biker witches, her griffin boyfriend, and her dog - Pirate. I really liked the writing in this one. The author is able to write conversations in a relevant way. The characters speech is very understandable. The things they talk about are current. The slang that is used isn't to out there. The details aren't overdone. Fox gives us enough detail to paint a setting without giving so much detail that it takes away from the story. This is the second in a series and after reading it I wished I'd started with the first. I think there was probably some insight that someone who's read the first book would have that I didn't. Although not having read the first one I don't think I really missed that much. I will definitely be picking up the first one in this series, as well as keeping an eye out for more my Angie Fox.

This latest installment was full of comical, off the wall humor and adventure. Lizzie Brown, newly ascended demon slayer, embarks on a dangerous mission to save her fairy godfather, who has been enthralled and compromised by an ambitious succubus. A gang of succubae are invading sin city and taking no prisoners. Normally it would be good luck for Lizzie to have Dmitri, her griffin boyfriend on her side but unfortunately, griffins are to succubae as oxygen is to fire; they are both one huge power source waiting to detonate. This was a quick, fun read and I highly recommend this book, as well as the previous book The Accidental Demon Slayer. I also look forward to the next book in the series A Tale of Two Demon Slayers due out February 2010.
I also recommend: Salt and Silver Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, Book 4) Storm Born (Dark Swan, Book 1) Wicked Game Magic in the Blood (Allie Beckstrom)

hilarious urban fantasy,
This review is from: The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers (Mass Market Paperback)
Though she has become a bit more at ease with her magical DNA heritage (see THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER), Lizzie still has problems adjusting to what is expected of her from her odd blood relative mentor as no one tells her anything. Just before turning thirty she was a Happy Hands Preschool teacher; at thirty she turned into a genetic demon slaying witch.
When Uncle Phil angers a succubus, her witch tattooed grandmother Gertie and her Red Skulls biker coven decide they must go to Las Vegas to rescue Phil; Lizzie has no choice as she is ordered to join the cavalry. Upon reaching Vegas, the Department of Intramagical Matters refuses to allow Lizzie to enter the city as she has no license to practice magic. To obtain a license, she must pass a test, but she has little experience and no training. On the bright side her shapeshifting griffin boyfriend Dimitri is accompanying Lizzie and Red Skulls; she might reconsider her joy if she understood that succubae love shapeshifters and there are a dirty dozen living in Vegas With a nod to The Greatest American Hero, the second hilarious Exalted Demon Slayer of Dalea urban fantasy is an amusing tale starring an unlikely demons slayer and a horde of eccentric characters either driving her crazy or trying to kill her. Lizzie is almost clueless re her talent, but courageously does her best as fighting deadly demons is safer than riding a Honda with her grandma. Filled with humor, fans will enjoy Angie Fox's lighthearted frolic as the Atlanta teacher takes Vegas; that is once she gets past the immigration rules for magical practitioners. Harriet Klausner

Second in the Demon Slayer urban fantasy series revolving around Lizzie Brown, a newbie demon slayer desperately trying to learn what she needs to know to stay alive. My Take The last book, The Accidental Demon Slayer (Demon Slayers, 1) set us up with the primary series characters. This installment provides us with Lizzie's backup crew as well as providing Lizzie herself with a bit more confidence in herself and her friends. It still drove me a bit nuts--yeah, it's funny--it's also deep in Lizzie trying to shed her OCD need to be totally prepared for everything. Oh man, is she in the wrong line of work! She can't keep her mind on the task at hand--too much time with those preschoolers!? And she tends to whine a lot and I get enough of that at home. Then there's the early encounters between Max and Dimitri. Can you say testosterone overload?? Good thing Sid's on their side! The licensing bureau seems like everybody's idea of a DMV nightmare. It's definitely a Keystone Kops routine of screw-ups and dashing about with little thought and no depth to the book nor is there much tension. Fox gets her characters into all sorts of trouble and magically gets them out again without worrying about how...hey, it's just words. And words can do anything. Although, we do finally find out who is responsible for all those brownouts and blackouts... The Story It's bad and about to get worse! Uncle Phil is being targeted by a succubus and Lizzie and the Red Skulls have got to save him! Naturally, nothing can be that easy, for Lizzie and her Grandma discover that Serena is after more than just Uncle Phil's life energy. She's using him as part of a plot to bust open a gate from Hell. Did you know Vegas hotels have a supernatural floor? Yup, it's the thirteenth floor...woo-hoo-hoooo. The Characters Lizzie Brown accidentally turns out to be a demon slayer. A very rare species of human who didn't discover her abilities until she turned 30 and her Grandma busted down her front door. Now Lizzie is permanently on the road with Grandma and her fellow biker witches hunting down and slaying demons. A far cry from being a teacher at the Happy Hands Preschool. Although, her style of swearing is certainly still intact. Holy Sheboygan! Pirate, a Jack Russell terrier, is her totally useless but lots of fun-to-chat-with watchdog with all sorts of delusions and ambitions. He's also learning how to count courtesy of Dimitri and play Scrabble with Ezra, which really saves the day. Dimitri Kallinikos is a Greek shapeshifting griffin who discovers he's not quite so full-blooded anymore. He's also Lizzie's protector even when Lizzie has to turn around and protect him. Max Devereux is a hunter. Half-demon, half-slayer with a unique way of taking down a succubus. He fits right in with this crew in that he just keeps pushing away at Lizzie, never giving her time to figure out what's happening. To be fair, he's thinking she actually has some training. Grandma, a.k.a., Gertie, is a rad' Harley-ridin' biker chick and part of the Red Skulls coven of bikers including Ant Eater; Betty Two Sticks; Sidecar Bob who's trapped in a wheelchair and is bonding with Pirate; Scarlet; Spinebreaker, a.k.a., Jan Elkins, a.k.a., the Library Hag; Battina who specializes in acquiring the hard-to-find ingredients for spells; and, Crazy Frieda with an even crazier wardrobe--I'm still trying to figure out those pink, zippers-everywhere leather pants! Uncle Phil Whirley is Lizzie's fairy godfather--literally--and Lizzie discovers he's been involved in every aspect of her life--a lot more than her adoptive parents! Skeeps! I want one! They're pulsing balls of light that will run errands and get you anything you need! Ezra is a bellhop ghost at their hotel while Joe is a long-dead engineer who still keeps an eye on the Hoover dam through its tunnels. Senior Officer Reynolds seems to be in charge of the Greater Nevada Department of Intramagical Procedures (DIP) office. Thank god! If we had to wait for the Dragon Lady to pass Lizzie...we'd all be grilling our weenies in Hell. Although, he only seems good for introducing Lizzieto , in a roundabout way, Officer Sid Fuzzlebump who is a fairy grumblingly giving Lizzie aid. Serena is the succubus who is seducing Uncle Phil into helping her with her "break open Hell" plan. And man, does she have a history! The Cover The deep, but bright purple cover is getting pretty rowdy for Lizzie. That girl is goin' to the hogs with her black leather miniskirt and zip-up fitted vest. She's straddling a motorcycle with Pirate perched behind and checking us out from under Lizzie's outstretched arm as she holds what looks like a mini, extremely elaborate pike. The title is all about the book Lizzie plans to write. The 1936 copy the Las Vegas licensing bureau is handing out just doesn't cut it as The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers!

I really liked this book. It was a fun, fast read. I was a little disappointed with the ending but not enough to matter. Overall I thought this was a great second installment in this series and I can't wait to start reading the next one. If you liked the first book you'll like this book as well.
