Book Description

The Blackthorne, Inc. covert ops team is back with another action-adventure romantic suspense from Terry Odell. This time, it’s Computer Nerd meets Cartel Lord.

For Jinx, interacting with people is highly overrated. Computers are his life. On the job, he’s an intel gathering expert for Blackthorne, Inc. Off duty, he’s a shooter in computer role playing games. But what happens when he’s sent into the field to face real enemies with real guns?

Josiah Ignatius Nix—Jinx to all who know him—is the glue holding the Blackthorne, Inc. covert ops teams together when they’re on a mission. In the comfort of his basement office, with his favorite companions—his computers— a click of the mouse provides him with up-to-the-minute intel, which keeps the team alive.

Until the intel fails and a hostage rescue mission goes south. Both the hostage and team are captured, and the boss sends Jinx to the jungles of Mexico as an undercover field agent. The cartels have been kidnapping American engineers to build and maintain their private cell phone networks. Jinx’s skills make him a prime target for capture, a way to infiltrate the cartel and rescue not only the company’s client, but also the missing team of operatives.

Soon, he finds himself paired with Elle Sheridan, a cop whose missing sister is in the middle of a human trafficking ring. Will Elle be able to convince Jinx that Blackthorne’s mission needs to be expanded to include rescuing her sister? And if she does, will the two of them be able to stay ahead of rival cartel leaders and get out alive to make some private connections of their own?

2014 Heart of Denver Aspen Gold finalist, Romantic Suspense

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A sexy thriller," says Gumshoe Review. "Odell provides plenty of action and enough sex to satisfy romance readers. She does a deft switch of gender stereotypes with a heroine adept with guns and survival and an inept computer geek who would rather play video games than catch bad guys."

5.0 out of 5 stars More adventure from Blackthorne, Inc... January 2, 2014
By Donna
Format:Kindle Edition
Computer geek Josiah Nix, aka Jinx, isn't suppose to work in the field but his intelligence snafu led to trouble for the Blackthorne covert ops team Jinx is most comfortable among his computers providing intel for the team, so when he is assigned to the steamy jungles of Mexico to help recover Blackthorne's client as well as find and free his fellow black ops team members, he is out of his depth.

Undercover as an engineer proficient in building cell phone networks, Jinx's mission is to infiltrate the Mexican cartel that has captured Blackthorne's men and their client. This nefarious consortium needs their own private cell phone coverage to keep open lines of communication between their various members and holdings. With a little help from Blackthorne, the cartel's network is down and Jinx is in the perfect position to penetrate the organization when they kidnap him to work on the cell phone problem. He didn't count on Elle Sheridan, a cop looking for her missing sister, to be kidnapped along with him. However, they are instantly in sync, working together to find all the missing persons and playing a role as a couple to keep themselves safe. Their role playing is only partially imaginary as their attraction for each other deepens.

Romantic suspense writer Terry Odell weaves a thrilling story filled with intrigue and fast paced action in DANGEROUS CONNECTIONS, the fifth book of her Blackthorne Inc. series. This is a stand alone book but fans of Terry Odell will tell you that once you are introduced to the Blackthorne men you can not get enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good series December 20, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was definitely not up to par with others in the series. It was like the author just wanted to get it done and over.
On the whole, this being the weakest link, it was a great series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Continuation of the Blackthorne story November 4, 2013
By Sharon
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a sweeter, more humorous story than the previous books, primarily because Jinx is a computer nerd, and ends up in the field to rescue the rest of the team without the necessary training. The interesting twist is that the lady who helps him is a police officer, and has more training than Jinx in firing guns and self-defense. Thus, you have an alpha female and a relatively helpless male. Together, they fall in love, find and rescue the team, rescue hostages, are captured and held prisoner and escape, only to be recaptured and escape again. All in all, a great story with lots of twists and turns. The heroes of the prior books are included in the story and talk about how their relationships have evolved since their books ended. It's like visiting with old friends! Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jinx and Elle, one good team February 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another great Blackthorne novel. Great read.

Josiah Ignatious Nix, better known as Jinx to the operators of Blackthorne, Inc., is mad at himself.

An operation went sideways and four of his good friends, all Blackthorne, operators are missing. The mission was to recover a young girl who went missing from a resort. She turned up in Mexico. A drug cartel is involved big time.

Jinx blames himself.

Jinx is the computer guru who runs all things computer for Blackthorne. The fact that the whole thing was out of his control doesn't ease Jinx's belief that he somehow screwed things up and now four of his friends are missing.

Horace Blackstone, head of Blackstone Inc, decides that jinx needs to go undercover.

Jinx isn't to sure about this undercover stuff. He's a computer geek and a very good one not a field operative. He does want to know what happened to his friends so decides that a field operative he will be.

So begins one pretty damned good read.

We have Jinx, Fozzy, Dalton, a police officer looking for her sister, the head of a drug cartel, friends, enemies, love for Jinx and one rollercoaster of a ride.

Super read and well worth those five stars.

I really like this author's Blackthorne series, the characters are well done & the story line, while sometimes it borders on one mishap too many, it's still a great read...Hope more of these books are done in the future.

techo wiz Jinx becomes a field operative to rescue his team - he blames his bad intel for putting them in harm's way...he may be out of his league as an operative but he uses the skills he has to get them back and complete their mission...Elle needs the Blackthorne team, too, to find her sister and she plans to use Jinx to get access

Great storyline and characters, and I love the action but it almost felt like the sexual tension and sex scenes were an afterthought. Still worth a read.

More About the Author

I was born in Los Angeles and now make my home in Divide, Colorado. An avid reader (my parents tell everyone they had to move from our first home because I finished the local library), I always wanted to "fix" stories so the characters did what I wanted, in books, television, and the movies. Once I began writing, I found this wasn't always possible, as evidenced when the mystery I intended to write rapidly became a romance.

However, my entry into the world of writing can be attributed to a "mistake" when my son mentioned the Highlander television series on a visit home. Being the "good mother" I began watching the show and soon connected with the world of fanfiction, first as a reader, then as a critique giver, and then, one brave weekend, I wrote my first short story.

Things snowballed and soon I was writing my first original novel. Much later, I mentioned something about a recent Highlander episode to my son, and he said, "Oh, I've never actually watched the show, I just thought the concept was cool." Little did he know what he'd started.

I love getting into the minds of my characters, turning them loose in tight spots and seeing what they do. Too often, they surprise me.

My published works include the Pine Hills Police Series, the Blackthorne, Inc. series as well as the Romantic Suspense novel, What's in a Name? and the Mapleton Mystery series. I've also published numerous short stories with The Wild Rose Press.

I'm an active member of Romance Writers of America, and its Kiss of Death chapter, as well as Mystery Writers of America. When I'm not writing, or watching wildlife from my window, I'm probably reading.
