This was a very good movie- as most all of Barbara Stanwyck's movies were.

I thought I would just try one of these collections before I started buying all the Popflix sets, and after getting this one I think it's safe to buy more.

The most important consideration is, of course, the technical quality of the film. And it's not bad. We're not talking Kino or Criterion Collection quality here, but it's okay. The film is a little scratched, and the sound isn't crystal clear, but I've seen a lot worse in discount releases. The sound doesn't have that horrendous loud static that muffles the voices like some DVDs do.

The films themselves, as you may have surmised, are low budget flicks that aren't exactly the greatest cinematic masterpieces ever made, but I hadn't seen most of them so it was worth it to me just for that.

This is just the sort of thing that I like for fleshing out my film library. I gave it a 4-star rating mostly because it's decent quality for the price, and I'm definitely going to order some more of the Popflix collections in the future.

I enjoy watching old classic movies. The stories are great, but the quality of the DVD is poor. It is very difficult to watch. The movies are dark, and a little fuzzy. Just of very poor quality. I would not recommend this collection for those reasons. If it were remastered, I would recommend the collection. I guess that's what I get for paying $6.99 for a collection. But I must say that I have purchased other movies at a low great rate and they turned out to be wonderful. That is why I shop Amazon for my old classic movies.

I'm an old movie buff, inherited by my mother, and I loved this collection. Lisabeth Scott - I had remembered her but never really knew much about her and I enjoyed these movies with her chiseled good looks. For not so famous movies and 'dames,' this is a good collection to sink your teeth into.

Dangerous Dames? Absolutely. These women are the kind you do not mess with. Acting is superb. As there are no special effects, acting was everything. These women played their part to the hilt. Extremely enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this movie collections. My favorite was Barbara Stanwych's Lady of Burlesque. If you like Lay of Burlesque, try Balls of Fire too. For anyone who likes classic cinema, these are worth the price and showcase some great old stars.

I love old movies and my husband and I much enjoyed these films. My complaint is that 4 of 6 of these movies can be bought in a similar collection a LOT cheaper, and, for the mediocre sound and picture quality, this set does not give the value that other sets offer (which, unfortunately, I discovered after purchasing).

All of these films (with the exception of "Lady of Burlesque" and "Blonde Ice") are part of the "Mystery Classics 100 Movie Pack" which was a few bucks more but has 100 films on it instead of 6, therefore, the price per movie is WAY cheaper.

Stanwyck's "Lady Of Burlesque" is a GREAT film, so if you buy the 100-film set, I recommend searching for "Lady Of Burlesque" in another collection in order to get the benefit of other titles not included in the 100 set. I have seen "Lady Of Burlesque" in a few other Stanwyck collections (there are many, like the TCM one, perhaps).

"Blonde Ice" is not particularly mesmerizing. It had our attention until the end, which, without giving anything away, was just terrible. The end was so badly written one must wonder if the writer decided to go on a bender and left it for his 5-year-old to finish. I would have been more impressed if the ending were "and then they woke up." Awful. Don't say I didn't warn you.

(PS -- "and then they woke up" does not relate to anything going on in the plot; it is a cliche ending that grade school children commonly use when they first learn creative writing and are too inarticulate, or inexperienced to be able to explain conflict resolution.)

I ended up buying this before I saw the other collection so I am out of luck. Hopefully this helps someone else.
