Book Description

March 31, 2007
A Dangerous Game By Julia Templeton Salvatore Tremayne has lived with a burning hatred toward the father who denied him his birthright...and the brother who received all the glory. Raised in one of London's most infamous brothels, Salvatore and his partner Nicolette have climbed from struggling musicians to London's most sought-after entertainers. But even success can not satisfy the vengeance Salvatore craves toward his dead father and his heir, the Earl of Kedgwick. When an opportunity arises to play at his brother's engagement party, Salvatore puts a plan into motion Nicolette will seduce the earl, and convince him not to marry the Duke of Durham's daughter. Thereby causing further scandal of the Kedgwick name and denying the earl the rich dowry. Nicolette, who has no experience with intimacy, asks Salvatore to teach her how to make love, so that she can properly seduce the earl. Little does Salvatore know that Nicolette has been in love with him for years. All of that changes with one night of passion. Now Salvatore is questioning what is more important to him revenge, or the love of the woman he might lose...to the very man he hates most of all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dangerous Game, March 14, 2008
This review is from: A Dangerous Game (Paperback)
Nicolette Rockwell and Salvatore Casale are music partners, friends, and
constant companions. Growing up poor in a brothel, they found companionship with each other and escape through their music. Now they're sought after musicians, playing for the ton in London and all over Europe.

Salvatore is not content though. He promised his mother never to forget what his father had done. Abandoning his mother when she became pregnant, leaving them to starve in the streets, forcing his mother to become a prostitute to survive. So with the help of Nicolette, Salvatore plans revenge on the family by having his half brother Darian Tremayne seduced, thus breaking the agreement between Darian and his fiancee's rich father.

There are some problems with this plan though. Nicolette dislikes Darian, and the role she's to play is getting difficult to perform. Also, Nicolette is starting to notice Salvatore as a man. Salvatore, too, is having difficulty with this plan. He's jealous every time a man goes near Nicolette, especially Darian. With advise from Charlotte, a brazen but likable widow, Nicolette sets out on her seduction, not of Darian, but Salvatore.

What a delightful book! I was totally in love with the characters. Nicolette, who always relied on Salvatore like a friend, only to realize she wants and needs more than a friendship from him. Salvatore, who thought he wanted revenge, only to realize he's the only one that should be kissing and touching Nicolette. This book also had wonderful secondary characters. I was also caught up in the sexual tension of this book,
getting to the point where I was yelling, "Have sex already!" to Nicolette and Salvatore. A Dangerous Game is the first book I've ever read by Ms. Templeton and I have to say it won't be my last.

3.0 out of 5 stars The rushed ending spoils it, September 3, 2011
By
This review is from: A Dangerous Game (Paperback)
I was fully prepared to give this at least four stars if not more until I got twenty pages from the end and all the careful character exploration was pretty much ignored to rush it to the conclusion. Salvatore and Nicolette are wonderful leads, and I loved the almost gentle relationship they had from the start. Their feelings are rich and believable, and it's very easy to root for them.

That unfortunately gets spoiled by too-convenient plot turns in the end as well as an entirely unbelievable turnaround on the part of one of the other primary characters. Within the space of two pages (only four pages from the end), I'm expected to change my mind about all the despicable behavior displayed previously in an all tell not show fashion. Um, no, I just can't turn on a dime like that, and ultimately, my disappointment at how that was all handled marred my overall enjoyment.

I really enjoyed it all the way to that point, however. They were a wonderful couple.
