4.0 out of 5 stars SO-SO Point & Click Game August 15, 2014
Verified Purchase
I was not crazy about this game even though I like the developer, Blam! who has made some great games (Web of Deceit, Fierce Tales, The Keepers). There is a lot to be said for a good story, and this one is disjointed and nonsensical. You are not given a chance to know or care about the characters before they are suddenly sucked into a sort of time warp trying to find "teleportation cards" in order to get to another place, or level. And for reasons unknown, the other main character is trying to kill them.

There is a LOT of back and forth because inventory items are not used in the same scene where they are found, and you must go back (or forth) to use them. Every point and click game has this to some degree, but it quickly became tedious, and the objects you find are either very predictable or very obscure. You also have a "magical animal" helper ("Dark Arcana" had a monkey, "Revived Legends" had a dragon), and the cut scenes with this helper are supposed to be funny and endearing, but they just tried my patience. The other cut scenes were just odd, and didn't portray the intended sequence of actions.

The graphics were hit and miss, some scenes were nicely detailed, some were just average. The hidden object searches were very well done with lots of fun details. The music, sound and voice-overs were well done. I had no glitches playing on kindle fire HDX 8.9. All inventory items could be picked up and used when needed, there were no loading screens, and all mini games worked as intended. There is a journal, hint button, task button, and a map with fast travel capabilities. You also find hidden puzzle pieces throughout the game.

It is $2.99 to unlock the full game. I played until the free part ended (about an hour), but didn't pay for the unlock, as I just didn't find the game interesting enough to spend the money. As always, I recommend trying the free part and seeing if it appeals to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not A Classic, But Pretty Good August 18, 2014

I groaned after I downloaded this game and saw that it had been developed by Blam Games for Big Fish. I almost never like Blam Games for one reason or another. However, this was one of the better ones. There was still the annoying screen lag time, but not nearly as bad or long as some of the other recent adventures. There was a map that you could use to navigate, which was helpful in skipping some of the backtracking. For once the hidden object scenes, which I don't like, were evenly distributed throughout the game, not backloaded. There were still too many clip scenes with dialog boxes that you couldn't click through. You either had to wait or skip it entirely. One thing I did like was the ability to customize a difficulty level. I was able to avoid a hidden object mistap penalty, and only have sparkles to identify the hidden object scenes, not every active area. You can also control how much information the text-overs give you in what to do next.

Inventory was labeled, which is a help. I had some touch response issues, especially in hidden object scenes. It took several taps to collect some objects. In other scenes, you sometimes had to place an inventory item exactly to get it to work. There was a bit of running around from screen to screen to use inventory items, but the map helped with this. For me, I find it more irritating if the inventory items are right next to where they need to be used. Too easy! One thing not too easy were the mini-games. Some of them, even with instructions, were baffling. Others were just tedious after a while. A few were perfectly fine. Thank goodness for the skip button!

The storyline was interesting and a bit different. I found the use of the various cards, power and transport, non-intuitive at times, but it wasn't a big problem. Overall, I'd recommend this game. It's not one of the classics, but it's definitely long, detailed and pretty good. I played on a second generation Kindle Fire.

3.0 out of 5 stars s'okay August 19, 2014

This is a decent point and click game with easy hogs and mini puzzles. Graphics were good except the cut scenes were blurry. Wasn't very invested in the story or the characters. Certainly the power cards were a new twist but not sure they added much to the game. The price was decent.

Could have rounded up to four stars, but I'm wondering if we, the public, aren't giving inflated ratings out of simple gratitude to developers just because we so often have to wait so long for new games for kindle, since most developers seem to be gearing all the new games to iPhones and tablets. I know I am longing for the days of such games as Shiver:Poltergeist and The Vanishing; Shattered Minds: Masquerade and Encore; Brink of Consciousness; and Nightfall Mysteries....all excellent and challenging games by Big Fish, real quality at the same price as this game. Come on Big Fish...we know you can do it!

Wow, this game could not be more perfect! This was amazing, beautiful, fun, entertaining, not super hard and a good length. Please keep games like this coming. I truly look forward to each and every game you all put out. It is hard for me to wait until the next game arrives! This was the best game so far with really amazing and realistic special effects!! Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this awesome game. One other note, the story was great too. Please release the next game as soon as possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit bazaar!? August 21, 2014
Verified Purchase
The graphics in this game were quite good, often beautiful and very lush. I wasn't crazy about some of the creatures, as they looked like children's versions of some weird horror movie. The game was of good length, while the bonus chapter was also of good length and actually more compelling than the main game. No HO was explored more than once. The mini-games were a baffling mix of way too easy or time consuming or what the heck? Story was different and odd. Some may be put off by the creatures, but overall I enjoyed this game. Gameplay was smooth w/ no glitches and no waiting for scenes to load. Well made game!
