Lora Leigh's book has received some great reviews on here, but I simply can't get past the enormous errors printed on those pages. First of all, I felt like I fell into the story around Chapter 8 of a much longer work. Obviously this is the second book in the series, but there wasn't enough backstory to actually make me feel as though I understood what had happened previously. Characters popped up and faded away as Leigh needed them in or out of the story.

The errors...oh my. First of all, the story is about Navy SEALs. Why does Leigh write TWICE that the hero, Clint, joined the Army? The Army and the Navy are different branches of the military. She calls him "Special Forces" which is a group in the Army. She also has her hero drop out of high school at 17 and join the military...sorry, folks, that can't happen. Under the age of 18, a recruit must have the signature of his parents to join (I know, 'cause I did). Also, you must have at least a GED to join if you don't have a high school diploma.

Next we have a bunch of SEALs apparently stationed around Atlanta, GA because they all have apartments there. A very distinct part of joining the Navy and being a SEAL is the fact that you work around large bodies of water, such as the ocean. There is no ocean near Atlanta. That may be the reason that the real SEAL teams are based out of coastal Virginia and coastal California.

Leigh places her characters in a club in South Carolina. It's a two hour drive from Atlanta to the SC border. That seems like a long drive just for a hot nightclub.

And let's talk about the clubs that her SEALs frequent. They are BDSM clubs, and apparently it is a well-known fact that her SEALs have been partying here for years now. Only problem there is, half the stuff that happens in BDSM clubs is illegal according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Now, I understand that SEALs follow a slightly different set of rules, but no one would allow it to be so very well known that they go to BDSM clubs and possibly cause the loss of a career.

Another point I questioned...how did the hero come up with the $40,000 needed to gain exclusive entrance to one of the clubs at the same time that he was sending enough money to his mother that she could buy a house with it? Leigh never states what rank her hero has gained, but unless he's an Admiral, the money he is spending seems a bit more than his budget will allow.

Those were the most glaring problems I encountered. The drug operation that is running was slightly confusing to me, as were the intentions and actions of the bad guy.

The "erotic" aspect of the book was good: Leigh is deliberate in her sex scenes and adds plenty of emotional ground for her characters to cover while they're getting hot and heavy.

As a story, I would probably give the book three stars, but with all the errors I found, I'm stretching to give it two. Either Leigh's research or her editor should have picked up on these obvious problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, February 6, 2007
This review is from: Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) (Mass Market Paperback)
SEAL Clint McIntyre has wanted Morganna for ten years. Though he has ached with the need to possess her, he is unwilling to shatter her illusions of the happily ever after that he cannot offer. Consequently, he's kept his distance. However, when Morganna's life is threatened by unseen enemies, Clint will fight to protect her with every ounce of his being.

Morganna Chavez has been in love with Clint since she was 16 years old. She has tempted him every time he has been near, but to no avail. As a result, she has resigned herself to the fact that she will never be a part of his life. Unwilling to sacrifice her happiness any longer by yearning for something beyond her reach, Morganna embarks on a new career; a dangerous career that she conceals from Clint. When Clint discovers her new job, along with the danger stalking her, Morganna knows that fate is about to alter her life in an unforeseen way.

DANGEROUS GAMES by Lora Leigh has to be one of the most emotionally intense books I have read in a very long time. As I began to read, I eagerly anticipated a story containing the equation of Dominant Man + Submissive Woman = Match Made in Heaven. After all, a strong alpha-male hero is one of my favorite expectations when I pick up a Lora Leigh book. My equation, assumed with all good intentions, turned out to be much too simplistic for what this book delivered. There was more of everything; more action, more intensity, more chemistry and more heat.

Clint, in all of his manly glory and accoutrements, immediately had me quivering and wishing for a Navy SEAL all my own; alas, that was not meant to be as Clint was Morganna's alone whether he admitted it or not. Speaking of Morganna, she is an exceptionally strong heroine. This was the aspect that Ms. Leigh delivered over and above my expectations. Though she understands Clint is alpha and dominant, Morganna holds her own. Exceedingly stubborn when Clint is beating his chest the hardest, Morganna gives him a run for his money and I think it's glorious. Fully aware of Clint's feelings, Morganna has the strength to give him what he wants; or what he thinks he wants the most. His surrender to their relationship has to be one of the most beautiful love scenes I have ever had the fortune to read. I actually FELT their love pour from the pages.

I am overjoyed that Lora Leigh has once again penned a marvelous novel of suspense and raw passion. My heart immediately began to pine for these SEALS upon reading RENOS' CHANCE in last year's "Honk If You Love Real Men" anthology. DANGEROUS GAMES continues the zest I have for these wonderfully alpha men. I am on pins and needles with my legs crossed waiting on the next installment, FOR MAGGIE'S SAKE, and I fear the wait just might kill me!

2.0 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding me., February 17, 2009
This review is from: Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have no idea how this book is getting 5 star reviews from some readers. I'm assuming they are only basing it on the sex scenes and nothing else. The main charachers are complely unlikeable. She's 26 and acts like she's 12 and he's a 35 year old that acts like he's 16. You do not get invested in the story or in the characters. I was a little turned off by the anal sex scenes, not my cup of tea. It was all just over the top. The whole BDSM scene was actually understated which surprised me. In addition, you add the editing errors and the uneven plot flow just makes this a poor reading material.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overdone and overwrought...., October 3, 2008

I haven't read the first story in this series, the short story Reno's Chance in the anthology, Honk If You Love Real Men so I felt a little lost when guys started popping up left and right. I just felt like I was inundated with too much information too fast. The plot also looked more intricate than it really was and when it finally unfolded, I felt let down. The bad guy and girl were just too pathetically stupid after all that buildup.

Clint McIntyre was the type of guy who was way more complicated than he needed to be. He had too much baggage for someone like me to want to hitch a ride on and his momma issues were particularly unsavory in light of his sexual preferences. It made me question whether he even liked women and made me wonder if he secretly substituted his mother whenever he was "disciplining" a submissive. Nasty. Morganna seemed a little flighty to me. I didn't dislike her, nor did I particularly care about her. She was just, eh.

The sex in Dangerous Games was overblown and at times, silly. Clint has an emergency overnight bag that just happens to have a butt plug in it? WTF? Who the heck travels with an emergency butt plug? The premiere Dom of Atlanta, that's who. Whatever.

This book was overdone and a little overwrought in my most humble opinion. It took itself waaay too seriously and felt like an absurd caricature. I just can't recommend it. It was just okay, it wasn't awful but nor can I see where this could have been better without stripping everything down and starting again. This was my first Tempting Seals book and now I'm no longer enthusiastic to try any more. I've read Wild Card, which I loved and while it too had a lot of emotions running around it worked for me, Dangerous Games just fell flat. :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly erotic, March 13, 2007
This review is from: Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first read by Lora Leigh and if I hadn't read the online reviews and visited Ms. Leigh's website I would have been a bit shocked by just how kinky some of the sex in this book was. Having been prepared for the extreme kink I loved this book. I wasn't overly fond of the Dom/Sub idea but it worked for this story. I agree with the reviewer who was disappointed that we never got a sex scene in Clint's expensive private room full of toys. If you are looking for a tame love story this might not be the book for you but if you want hot, steamy sex this is your book. I am going in search of Reno's & Joe's stories and anxiously awaiting Kell's story in Hidden Agenda's.

You know, once upon a time, the 'danger' of reading about BDSM would make me forgive little things:- like poor plot lines, poor characterisation, poor sentence structure. But those days are no more.

This is a very vanilla BDSM book with repetitive themes and word usage. It's badly written, which is a shame, because I think Lora Leigh is better than this. The characterizations are very broad and not very interesting. The tension is vapid and the villans card board cut outs.

This is not a good romance, nor is it an interesting thriller. I confess I did not read it all the way, but started skimming and then skipped whole chunks. I was very disappointed.

This is my first...and my last Lora Leigh book.
Apart from disliking the story, the characters, the setting, and the repetition...the mistakes were unforgivable. They weren't abundant in the first part, (small but obvious errors - such as inconsistent placement of characters and dialogue from one scene to the next) but towards the end of the book, characters in the scene were given the wrong names. At first I thought I missed something so I went back and re-read the lines. Sure enough the wrong names were used ... several times. It's as though the author got bored and lazy toward the end and just wanted to be done with it. How does something this bad and this unprofessional get published?

2.0 out of 5 stars Where were the Doms in this book?, March 12, 2007

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Lora Leigh. I have her whole back catalog from Elloras Cave and her books from Samhain Publishing. She can write a sex scene like nobody's business. But the problem I'm having with this book is all of these guys calling themselves Doms and exhibiting very little if any Dom-like behavior. What kind of Dom is Clint if Morganna's leading him by the balls during the entire book. He definitely didn't control her. And the sex between the two? It was hot but there was nothing in it that made me think of BDSM at all. The only elements to me that really spoke of BDSM were the style of dress and the things Morganna saw when she walked down that hallway in the Underground club. I mean come on, Clint had this magnificent room with all kinds of kinky paraphernilia and we never got to see him use any of it or put his supposedly considerable Dom-like skills on display?

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to devour!, February 21, 2007
By
This review is from: Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first Lora Leigh book and I cannot believe I read this book in one day. Once you start, it will be hard to put down. It's a highly sensual, electrifying and sexy read. Having said that, I have to agree with a reviewer about not liking the Bondage, dom and sub angle. It was a bit too graphic for my taste and wished that the hero wasn't portrayed as being a part of it. I still couldn't let myself take away even one star for it since the author's characterizaion was superb and she keeps you glued to the story like no other. So five stars for Lora Leigh and hope to read more about these brave and protective seals!

3.0 out of 5 stars When it was good, it was great, but that wasn't the whole time, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) (Mass Market Paperback)
Clint McIntyre is a tough as nails, seen it all Navy SEAL who uses his job, and the icy exterior it forces him to adopt, as an excuse to deny his attraction to his best friend's younger sister, Morganna. Morganna and Clint have always had a thing for each other. Even when she was a little girl, Morganna knew she wanted to grow up and be with Clint. Clint, on the other hand, always wanted to protect Morganna from his darker tendencies and pushed her away her whole life.

Now, years later, Morganna is all grown up and Clint can't help but notice her. Since he's tried his whole life to protect her, he's devastated when he learns that Morganna has accepted a law enforcement position wherein she will be used as bait to lure in suspected dealers of a new date rape drug. Clint can't stand to see Morganna in the line of fire, and is willing to do anything to keep her safe, even at his own expense. But when the two wind up working the case together, the passionate flame between them begins to burn at a feverish pace.

Dangerous Games was steamy, passionate, and exciting with enough action and drama to keep you entertained from start to finish. When I'm in the mood for erotic romance, generally I need look no further than Lora Leigh. That being said, sometimes she goes a little too far for me, and Dangerous Games was one of those times. As another reviewer mentioned, I am all for domination and submission in the proper time and place, but the lifestyle as a whole doesn't appeal to me. In that respect, there were large portions of this book where I was bored and just waiting for the action between the hero and heroine to pick up. Still, the parts of Dangerous Seals that were good, were great, and for that reason I'm able to look past the over-the-top backdrop in which the story took place.
